I don't know for sure but it does sound like they are suffering from transplant shock. The only thing I can suggest is to mix in some seaweed fertiliser when you water them and perhaps use some as a foliar spray as well.

Hi Vonney, probably not the best time of year to be moving camellias and they will sulk for quite while.If they are in a sunnier spot they will get leaf burn and curl up a bit and to much water will also make them sulk a bit as well. Good luck. Peter r

Thanks for your help! I must admit I am well and truly over camellias. I had a row of them along the back of my south backyard where they should have been happy - North facing wall with sun during the day (sasanquas can take sum). It's a raised bed and I was hoping for a beautiful lush hedge - fairly tall. But after a year they had not grown at all and those two I took out had the leaves curling. I'm still not sure if they were getting too much or too little water. Anyway I have now replaced the whole lot of them with Magnolia Little Gems. They are not as temperamental and do give a great show when they flower. The camellias have been relegated to down the side of the house. It's pretty passageway and if they pull themselves together will look nice. They can sulk as long as they like - as least I don't have to sit and look at them from my back patio!!

You have to be a bit careful with north facing walls - they also reflect heat back and, if the wall is brick or other solid material, will absorb heat as well.

I have a number of frost tender shrubs in large pots which spend winter against a north facing brick wall and our -5 degree winters and very heavy frosts don't faze them. But I have to move them in summer or they fry.

Don't have any experience with sasanquas but I grow a number of japonicas along the south side of the house as a screen. Some of them are very vigorous and grow quickly. And they are quite dense.
