I realize you're in AZ, but do trees there not go dormant anywhere? Is there no semblance of cold?

It's one thing to wire a tree during winter (however little of it you get there), but do you normally bare-root at this time? Do you not use any paste, etc. to help the roots?

Yeah, at the very least I'd recommend you put some soil or sand around the roots and wrap it in a bag for a few months to give the tree time to grab on to the rock.

If you just set it there, it will never actually grab on, and it'll just sort of sit there on top of it.

it is a spruce ... and it is blue..

but it sure doesnt look like picea pungens ...

otherwise ... good luck ...

could we have a non fuzzy version of the last pic????

ken

Yes, apologize for the fuzzy pic. I will get some new ones up shortly.

It does get cold here, down in the 10's next week. I am in Northern Arizona most folk don't realize it snows in Arizona.

It is time to bare root here, the roses out front have just a few leaves on them. So its a sign its time for the bare roots to be showing up. I don't use any special paste or anything I may use B-1 or look for some willow branches to soak and create an natural root hormone.

As was said, the roots will need to be covered. At the moment I am just misting them until I am finished, then I may use moss to wrap them at it creates perfect moisture.

This will take awhile, lots of patients too...by next winter I may be able to uncover the roots and by closer to a great tree.

I also plan on adding other things to the landscape of the tree when that time comes.

Oh and I will look at the tag that was on the container and maybe there will be a name there. When I post better photos you will get a better vision on it.

Oh and I must say, thanks for all the comments and keeping them neutral. Some people seem to forget we are not all professionals on the first try! Its a learning lesson, and the point with any project is to have fun..

More photos!
