No the blooms are a very very very dark burgundy. If the plant sits where the sunlight hits it, you can see the true color. If your area is dark and gray, like it is in my g/h today, they do appear to be black.

It is easy to grow and you treat it like any other Ctsm. family plant. Give it lots of water, fertilizer and light when it is growing in the spring and summer. If you still have foliage by Christmas, force it into dormancy by withdrawing all water. If it is leafless and blooming, give it baby sips of water while blooming so the buds don't dry out.

Check with Fred Clark, Sun Valley orchids - if he doesn't have it he probably has some Fdk. After Dark which are just as dark, maybe darker.
