Pruning Gertrude Jekyll

I have tried both light pruning and heavy pruning my Gertie. She flowers better with heavy pruning, about 1/2 after the first flush and 1/3 after the second flush.

Now I want to try letting some of her main canes climb and prune her laterals on these canes to 2 feet or so and heavy prune the rest of the main canes to increase flowering at the base.

What do you think? Any suggestions?
