If you are looking for some easy native plants, do a Google search for the area of the Ozarks where you are located.

I have had very little luck growing things meant for very different areas, but you may be luckier or more persistent.

I don't remember what kind of abelia I have but it isn't noticeably fragrant if that's a clue. I've had a couple failures with abelia as well that were different types. One was a variegated one called 'Silver Anniversary'. I don't know the name of the other but the flowers were more pink than the one I have now. Neither lasted very long.

The abelia I have that has survived is on the east side of my house fairly close to the foundation where it stays pretty dry. I water it during dry spells in the summer. It gets afternoon shade there too.

Our summers are too hot for some plants but I have just as many or more that disappear over winter. I suspect that it's a drainage problem. Perhaps the ground stays too soggy in the winter, or maybe they just don't like the erratic up and down temps that we have in the Ozarks.

I can't recall ever seeing linanthus. It looks like a pretty plant. Let us know if you have good luck with that. Maybe it would work as a reseeding annual.

I don't typically have good luck with anything requiring cool temps (like your latter two)...it's just not in cards when our official climatic designation is humid subtropical (Wikipedia).
