Leochilus carinatus

A strange bird from Mexico. Warm grower, small flowers on long stalks. A good picture of the flower can be seen at: http://www.orchidspecies.com/leoccarinatus.htm The trick with that one is not to cut off the spent flower stalk as it will make a keiki at each node.

I got this one last year and after it bloomed, I flipped the stalk up and you can see 2 new plantlets connected to the bottom one with the old stalk.

Another view how the stalk/keiki arrangement works. When it finishes blooming, I'll flip the stalk down, tie it to the stake and let new plantlets develop. The bottom plant is the #1 keiki from last year and it is getting ready to make it's first flower stalk. This plant is in continuous bloom as each and every plantlet eventually will bloom.
