It is really pretty, wonder for the flowers are as small as other fernleafs. It looks bigger but might have just been the camera angle. Not available until 2020, better start saving for that one now! Sure it'll be very expensive.

Hi Liz! I agree that it will not be affordable. I think it will be just eye candy for me as I do not want to spend a fortune on a plant that requires excellent drainage. I will probably lose it before it has a chance to get established. Last year, I bought the red double fernleaf and the yellow Golden Wheel, both of which require excellent drainage. Though I did not spend a fortune but still pretty good money on them, I hope they will do well and not rot on me. As much as I amend my soil, there is still a nagging feeling that it is not enough for these plants. As my yard's natural soil is a mix of the red and shale clay.

Sand or gravel mixed into clay doesn't become dominant until it is more than half of the total volume of soil. In the meantime it may form concrete.

Organic material mixed into soil decomposes and allows the soil to return to its original composition, unless the bed is re-amended at regular intervals. In hot climates this decomposition can be quite rapid - one study peat dug into an Oklahoma soil could not be seen a year later.

Small planting holes, strips or beds dug out of a clay soil and back-filled with a coarser mix may become collection points for water during wet conditions. The way to grow drainage-sensitive plants on a site with dense soil is to buy well-drained soil, dump it on top of the existing soil and plant in that, without mixing the two layers together.
