They start again when conditions are right usually early in March to early in April. The east coast seems to start earlier. Look at the tips of the branches. When the color changes or claws form, water the plants and put in the sun.

Mine are waking up now and I give them water around the rim. I don't soak them, but I give them enough to get moist , not to wet. Put them close to a southern window and you should see a change!! Just remember to not let them sit in a saucer full of water. It will cause root rot.

This is about the time that mine start to wake up and I'm afraid some are waking to early and I see inflos. I just want them to slow down because I want to see those inflos continue to grow and bloom during the summer!!

Dormancy is dictated by temps and day length. But there is a danger of forcing them to remain dormant for too long. This can stress them and cause the tips to turn black. This can happen for us in the North who don't have access to a greenhouse and/or must keep them in too cool a place with too low light.

If you can safely get them to a greenhouse, I think they will respond to the warmth (it is warm, isn't it?) and longer day lengths/higher light levels. As others have said, let the plants 'tell you' when they are waking up, then start to water a bit...first around the edges of the pots.

As leaves begin to unfold, increase watering. Watch for mites and spray accordingly.

I have plants in my cool garage. This cold spell is making my garage colder than usual, so I may have to move a few of the smaller plants into the house!
