Territorial Seed's Pizza Pepper

They finally have seeds for this in stock again.
Does this pepper live up to their description of it (most thick walled part).

( If you like the flavor of hot peppers but not so much fire, Pizza Pepper will be a hit. It is the heaviest, most thick-walled pepper we have ever seen.)

Sounds like a must have, but would like to hear from someone's that's grown it before spending $$ on it. Their shipping charges looks pricey.

If its an heirloom that you really like go for it you will have all the seed you need next year. I grow a good crop of Anchos[try these smoked] Jalapeno[ smoke them too] ,Hot Cherry for Poppers, and Hungarian Wax [ Hot Pepper Ketchup] Every year for my own head. Totally independent of my super hots, good 2miles away.
When you find a pepper that works for you,the sky's the limit if you have the seed.

I've grown the 'Pizza' pepper off and on for years. They do have a nice thick wall and are good choice for pickling.

How do they compare to Burpee's Sweet Heat peppers?

Did a bit of looking around, only Territorial offers this seed/plant (@ PepperDave, they are reporting it's OP.> Pizza Pepper Organic ) but it could be any cone shaped variety they chose to rename it to, Hot Mariachi Pepper comes to mind.

Their 8 bucks flat rate S&H is expensive and I only see 3 ways around it, order a lot of seeds to spread the cost, see if there's a retail outlet near you or someone that lives near one that will forward.

Sandy, thanks for your input. Seems like it's just an okay pepper. I don't pickle peppers unless I start this year. I mostly grill, saute, stuff or dry them. I would like to freeze some this year.
chileman, I bet your right about them renaming the variety. I thought it odd that they would be the only place to sell these.
I think I'll just pass on ordering these.

Are these 'Pizza Pepper' really much different from the mild Jalapenos that are easy to find? Always think I will like some of these mild not hot hot peppers, but they don't seem good for much, neither good for fresh like a sweet and too mild for cooking.

I never saw the appeal of the not hot hot peppers personally. To me the smoky, pungent flavors you get in various hot peppers work to assist the heat, as opposed to by themselves. I don't think I'd enjoy a pepper without either the flavor of a sweet pepper or the fire of a hot pepper.
