I am designing a new kitchen and am having trouble deciding on a cooktop and ventilation system. I know the range tops are very popular now. However, I personally do not want it sticking out from the counter as far as they do. So, I am looking for a gas cooktop. I would like the ventilation to be made by the same company. Sounds easy, but is much harder than I thought. I need a wall mounted vent. Many of them are quite deep (27"), also quite tall (18+"). The smaller models are too small. I will have a 10' ceiling, so I do not think I can use a canopy vent. It is a long way up for the chimney, unless I just cut it off at either cabinet height, or 9'. The only company that has all the dimensions I am looking for is Viking. Their wall mount vent is 24" deep. But, the only review I can find for the cooktop says "This is the worst cooktop ever made!" Hmmmm..... Anybody have Viking VGC5366BSS? The person has trouble cleaning it. Said the stainless steel stained after only one month. Is it that difficult to keep clean? Any other suggestions?
