new here :) pls help with kitchen pendants and knobs/pulls

Hi! I used to frequent these boards waaay back in the day, under a diff username...probably back in 2000, when it was mostly a chat board :) Anyway...

The previous owners put these pendants in, and, not sure if you can even tell from the pic, wavy drawer pulls and square shaped knobs. They're just NMS. The kitchen is a little too contemporary for me.

Can someone help me pick new pendants and knobs/pulls? My tastes skew more classic...but have no idea where to start. I like the idea of glass pendants, but wondering if they would get too dusty too fast?

Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks.

    adding a close-up of the knobs/pulls!

We found knobs made of the same granite as our countertops. I can't recall the supplier now, but if you google granite kitchen cabinet knobs a variety will come up. If you know the name of your granite googling that will yield even better results. Good luck!

One thing I'd be careful about with clear glass pendants is harsh light.

How about pulls like this, which I think are a nice hybrid of contemporary and traditional and would be nice with the granite.

    Maybe this for the doors?

I can't really see the knobs, but I do like the lights and the pulls.

The lights have a nice, clean look and seem to be just right for task lighting. They also don't block the view of your beautiful kitchen.

I think this pendant would be gorgeous in your kitchen

I am not sure which direction you are going, but since everything is so white, you can break that up with finishes such as Tibbrix pulls and knobs.

The granite seems to need that contrast. Adding a runner with some color could help too.

ok I love the pull and first knob that Tibbrix posted and I really like the pendant aktillery posted right above me.

Same light in clear glass. I like al's but am very leery of the harshness of clear glass and bulbs.

    I have these knobs:
    {{gwi:2136567}}
Satin nickle in the kitchen; gilded bronze (looks like old brass) in the FR

    and these pulls
    {{gwi:2136568}}

The knobs are Amerock Revitalize and the pulls are Amerock Allison.

Actually, I don't find the pendants offensive. I think they are pretty unnoticeable.

I was hoping your 'wavy' handles were the ones I plan to get - but they aren't! If they were I'd offer to buy them from you. I'd love to have that many drawers - even half that many! I only have 6. My handles are just 1 slight wave. I bought 2 locally - they only had them in brushed nickel and I'm gonna need dark ones. but for little $s I got to try them. I might just spray paint them and see how that goes.

How about handles that would match the handles on your ovens? I've seen some kitchens that did that and they looked great .

I'd also be concerned about harsh light w/clear globes. Are those lights up a bit high? maybe it's cause I'm so short... could they be too small? I'm not real up on the size needed for that space.

have you thought about changing the color of the island to be an accent?

that is a nice HUGE kitchen!

I do love the handle Tibbex posted - it also has a good project to it. It's too expensive for me and I'd probably kill myself on those straight edges.

THANKS everyone!! wow, so glad i posted!

Tibbrix, i do love the color of that pull. but i may have to look to see if they have something even softer, in terms of lines. yes, it's a good mix of contemporary and traditional, but i dont' want that 90 deg angle. and i will look to see if they have matching round pulls.

and i love the pendant aktillery posted! where did you find that?

good tip on the harshness of clear glass. hadn't thought about that at all.

i also like the gilded bronze knob that bbstx posted.

bummer about my pulls not being the ones you needed, desertsteph--i would have totally offered them up to you!!

yes, it is a big kitchen, and because the ceilings are 10', it seems even bigger. and one day i will get rid of the granite backsplash...it is excessive and i have no idea why they were done that way.

please keep the ideas coming! love to see everyone's thoughts. thanks!

I love these pendants. I ordered them for my kitchen but they didn't work because our ceiling was too low. I think they'd be beautiful I'm your kitchen with coordinating oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls. They are on the Ballard Designs website, but made by the Uttermost lighting company.

I'va always loved Shanghaimom's kitchen, linked below. She used Amerock's "Revitalize" pulls in burnished bronze. I ended up using the same pull in a different finish for my kitchen and appreciate that they are easy to grab and provide plenty of room so your fingers don't touch (and soil) the cabinets. I also really like her pendants but suspect they are no longer available.

I wouldn't opt for colored glass lighting because it changes the color of the light.

Can you post the size of the cabinet pulls (measured from the center of each of the two screws in the opened drawer holding them in place)? Only then can we know what could replace them, as your replacement pulls will have to be the same size unless you carefully fill the old holes that will become visible, which isn't always possible even if you work hard at it.depending on the cabinet finish. The knobs of course have only one hole so can be replaced with any knob, as well as with a vertical handle if you drill a new hole.

The cabinetry looks quite traditional to me, especially the legs on the island, the crown moulding, and the trim pieces between many of the cabinets. Painting those pieces (and maybe the cabinet frames) a somewhat darker color might help emphasize those elements that visually disappear when they're white. Other possibilities for traditionalizing the look would include adding mullions to the cabinet door glass to give it a colonial look, and working up something nice over the arch window and the concealed exhaust hood.

The tiger print backsplash is a bit much for my taste, although it may look much better IRL. Even though it's granite, I'd consider covering it with tiles of some sort.

I agree those wiggly pulls look odd - here's what I envisioned when you said you weren't that into 'modern' (it's from Restoration Hardware, BTW, & comes in several finishes)...

I have those restoration hardware pulls, love them!

hi!! thanks SO MUCH everyone for chiming in. lee676, my pulls are 5 inches, CTC.

OK, so i am obsessed obsessed with the Feiss pendant that aktillery posted--thanks for that! i'm trying to find a store that sells it locally so i can at least see it in person.

and after tibbrix posted the ORB pulls...i took that idea for color, and saw that lazydaisynot, the amerock revitalize pulls that you mentioned came in ORB too (i love that pull style--thank you!)

    but now i'm thinking...

    1. is it weird that my kitchen sink faucet is brushed nickel? (the rest of my house does too, for that matter -- all door knobs are brushed nickel). So would it be weird for me to have my pendants and cabinet hardware ORB?

    2. after looking more at the ORB cabinet pulls...i started wondering if it would be TOO much in my kitchen, since it is so big and there are so many cabinets? maybe i should just stick to brushed nickel cabinet hardware that matches my faucet, and then do the ORB pendant light? is that weird?

    am i overthinking this?

Thanks again for all your help. really appreciate it!

Have you looked at rejuvenation or schoolhouse electric for pendents? Lots of classic choices.

    brushed nickel on the cabs:Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Go with the ORB. doesn't matter that your sink is brushed nickel. Most sink faucets are chrome or nickel and are so in many kitchens where the cab hardware is something different.
