2015 trends

11 years ago

Does any one have a crystal ball handy? I read this on a Facebook site, what do you all think? On base or off?

"Based on a survey of vendors, Gifts and Decorative Accessories magazine has named metallics as the top color scheme for 2015."

Any guess as to what the trends will be?

    I am seeing alot more color in the rags lately. Oh and wallpaper too.

    I don't know which way this goes - if fashion follows decorating trends or if it's the other way around (I'm on the west coast and I don't know if we're behind or ahead of the curve either) but things I've noticed in fashion

    - everyone seems to be wearing head to toe black. I've never noticed so much of it as this year - black boots, black skinny jeans, black coats and no colourful scarves or hats to break up the all black.

    - purses are adding more metallic to them especially metallic handles.

    I've seen quite a few people using faux floral vines/swags across their kitchen windows instead of a window treatment. I don't like the look at all, but I just came across another one on a blog and thought I'd mention it here.

    Hooray, wallpaper is making a comeback........my bathrooms will finally be a la mode. âºï¸Â

    Vines really? That seems so last decade to me, and so 'faddish' I am surprised it will be resurrected. So much for "Tuscan" being out? It makes sense that window treatments and wall paper are heading back, these things are circular. Is it just me or are these trend repeats speeding up? When I read Metallic I thought there goes the glass and welcome back brass!! Maybe I can find my mom's three foot brass flower vases dad sent home from Thailand. NOT!!

    Yes, internet is full of the information like this. But metallic only goes well with elegant furniture items. Moreover, the curtains should also coordinate well with it.

    That has been NY forever...

    I hope wallpaper comes back. I did our powder room last year and now I'm pretty wallpaper-obsessed. And color, yes, there is definitely more color in the decor magazines lately, but still an awful lot of gray.

    I saw that vine window treatment on Maria Killam's blog and thought it was hideous. But I am not impressed with her taste in general.

    How else do we keep the consumers consuming? Now that people are a bit more financially solvent, push more spending. The American Way.

    Just received House Beautiful yesterday and, same as last month, it is full of "fun" color and whimsical decor. A swing of the pendulum away from all that gray? Or just chosen for issues people might be drawn to in dreary winter months?

    Most is too punchy/wild for my taste. I do really like wallpaper, though. Not plastered everywhere, like in th '80's, but the right ones in the right places.

    Maria's blog was the first place I saw the vine thing and thought she was joking at first. It didn't appear that many readers liked it. Maybe the other bloggers are following her.

    I've noticed the bright, wild splashes of color too.

    I do think that decorating follows fashion, and we definitely look at fashion to predict trends in furniture. It is a lot easier to change clothes than to change furniture. I also think that it is important for clothes and decor to be compatible, and I have at times felt very out of place when my clothes clashed with an interior - especially when I flew Alaskan Air from Seattle to San Francisco in 1981. I was wearing a magenta shirt with turquoise linen pants, and the plane was decorated in hideous brown earth colors. The next time I flew, I called the air line to ask what color scheme they had in their planes so that this would not happen again, but they were unable to give me that information :(. By the way, I clashed with the entire city of Seattle and was only there as a stopover from Vancouver, where I normally spent most of August when I lived in San Francisco.

    I watched the first Fashion Police this week and noticed that their set had changed drastically. Gone were the white painted chairs, and the new chairs looked like a reproduction/spin-off of [a Milo Baughman chair[(https://www.houzz.com/products/pair-chrome-steel-lounge-chairs-attributed-to-milo-baughman-prvw-vr~1324969), except that the metal appeared to be gold plated instead of steel. Perhaps the new trend is to gold/brass instead of steel/nickel, but I doubt I will go that road again. Once in the '80's was enough.

    Hopefully the gray thing is gone. I never considered that a color. It's too blah. Come on, pick a color already! Don't want to see wallpaper come back, at least not entire walls. Very expensive, very hard to put up and even harder to remove. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again. ALTHOUGH, it is much warmer and classier than paint if done correctly.

    Brass and gold is definitely back and I for one am happy for that! I find gold to be warm and elegant (not to mention I already have a lot of gold in my house).

    Judging by the January and February issues of Architectural Digest, this year's upscale interior design trends appear to be:

    - More Art Deco pieces, but not the clunky American Art Deco styling / mass-produced cheap waterfall furniture. It's the European version of Art Deco that is referenced often. Think French sophistication a la Ruhlmann from the 1920's-1930's;

    - Pieces from the 1920's-1930's are in vogue, often combined with MCM pieces (furniture, lighting, textiles, etc.) But NO waterfall type furniture;

    - Definitely more color and wallpaper, but not as garish as in the 1970's-1980's;

    - Interestingly enough, lots of Louis XVI chairs in various interpretations juxtaposed with more modernist Art Deco or MCM pieces.

    Which makes me think I might be quite "current" and even "upscale" with my circa 1930 German china cupboard and my late in-laws' Louis XVI dining chairs from the 50's-60's. Just need to add wallpaper in the dining room! Also a note to self to get rid of that so 90's Home Depot chandelier in brushed nickel. LOL.

    An Art Deco bedroom design by Ruhlmann, 1920's-1930's.

    Trend smend, do whatever...........whatever *-you* want/like. Don't be dictated to, whether it's fashion magazines or decorating magazines. Only you know what looks good on/around you. As for *pops* of color, enough of that already. I'm not, or will ever be, a color junky, but I do like bling! ANY metallic, brass/gold/bronze, mirror, crystals....it's all good!
