My main sink is across and off side to the range with about 6 feet between the sink and range counter. The walking line itself is not very long but its the quick access to water (pot fillers, rinses) which I am seeking to add. I would be happy with a small 12"X12" sink.

The kitchen is small (about 17' X 10') and load bearing walls have resulted in short counters. The problem is that the tiles have all gone in so the GC needs to break open the wall and floor tiles (but that seems preferable to knowing a prep sink would be useful and not having one). He is also cautioning about losing cabinet space but I think I can live with losing that amount of cabinet space in return for access to a prep sink.

I was worried about losing cabinet space too, but the 12" cabinet that the sink is in is used to store cookie sheets, cutting boards, etc. and is extremely useful as all of my other cabinets are drawers. I think you might be really happy with a small prep sink as long as you wouldn't be expecting to wash pots and pans in it. If you want it to fill pots, drain them, set down spoons, etc., then it will work well for you. At first I was hesitant about going with a sink with a bowl only 7.5" wide.
Then I took a good look at the (old) sink I was using. . . It was a one-and-a-half sink. I had my dish rack sitting in the large side (to drip dry dishes) and always worked from the small sink . . . And that bowl was actually only 10" x 12"!!!! When I realized that, I figured I could easily work with a sink that was 7.5" wide and 16" long.
Also, I thought once that I would like a pot filler. For some reason my husband was against it, and boy am I glad. I find this small sink and my prep faucet far more useful than only having a pot filler.

Here are a few pictures of the prep sink and stove area. I hope I can manage to post them all at once . . . If not, it will have to be one at a time. As you van see, our kitchen isn't finished yet. We're waiting on some cabinet doors, but we've been using the kitchen and the sinks for about 5 weeks now.

You're so right about the pot filler..I thought that would be a good enough substitute but a prep sink is so much more useful. Setting forth to get my GC to rip up a few tiles and get the plumbing in.

That actually seems incredibly useful! I have never been fond of prep sinks, but having something small and right next to the stove would be super handy.

I love the sink. It was one of our best decisions. It makes a smaller kitchen sooooo much more functional when people are not underfoot or in your pathway. I used to think prep sinks were only for people with large kitchens. By sacrificing a little countertop area, I've gained so much functionality. And the sink opening is small enough to be covered by a regular cutting board if need be.

Could you give specifics of your sink cabinet - you mentioned it was 12 inches wide. Could you also kindly also give the depth & distance from sink edge to counter edge. With the space you have currently, do you think a small tip out sink tray would fit?
