Borrow modern elements?

Hi everyone- I have an MCM prairie style ranch (we call them bungalows), in a woods like setting close to Toronto. I am trying to nail down how to update the exterior look without breaking the bank. I've been told by houzzers before to paint the brick- and I'm just not feeling it at the moment.
I found a new build home that I think we should try and copy design elements where possible.
What do you think?

I like your ranch house. It is what it is. Unless you want to go for a complete transformation.

What elements do you like about the new build house? The windows? The garage doors? I don't think sticking a carriage door on your garage is going to help things. I think if you wanted to go more modern, you could get a glass panel garage door or a different roof. You could change your trim color.

But as it is, I like the brick, I like your windows.

You could use some serious landscaping and a new garage door. Maybe change your trim color to ecru or taupe. I think your house has good bones. There are a lot of photos on Houzz for mid century ranches. I think it is a great style!

What would you take from that house? Nice garage doors would be a good investment, and even more so-landscaping!! You have a cute home. A lovely walkway in similar stone to your facade and lots of evergreens and perennials. Will find pics.

I agree, I like your house and think you should just embrace it :) Maybe a pop of color on the door and landscaping in the front to draw your eye toward the entrance. Maybe remove wrought iron fence at entrance to make it more welcoming. I wouldn't paint the brick, that's always something you can do later if you change your mind.

If I didn't know better I would think you live near me because the house looks familiar. I think that the colour of the siding is the one thing that could dramatically change your home. If you did some Maibec cedar siding in a colour closer to the colour of the stone I think it would look more harmonious. Nowadays you can get cedar that is prestained and doesn't weather the way it used to. You could also use something like Hardieboard.Then I would keep my accents to black or charcoal grey to tie in with the roof. Hope this helps.

Nice house! You need landscaping at the front to compliment the beautiful treed backdrop. Replace the iron work railing that is probably original to the house. A new garage door or paint it the deepest grey/taupe that is in your stonework on the chimney. When the roof needs replacing, change out your eavestrough and fascia board behind it to a grey/taupe. The white eavestrough just stands out because it's white, not something you want to feature, you want it to melt away into the roof and chimney. Bungalows are what they are, you will never get the same look as a tall two storey.

And if you do end up w a new roof, choose earth tones-tan not charcoal.
