If you eat enough, you will find seeds eventually. The stuff in the stores now is low quality but also lower in price than last year. Hopefully in a little bit things will be jamming!

Cody, the Dekopon/Shiranui ("Sumo" is the marketing name for this cultivar) is not available in the state of California for retail purchase. The particular cultivar being grown commercially right now in California is very heavily patented, and only available to approved commercial growers. So, we backyard hobby growers out of luck for now. You can try to find a seed in one of your fruits (they do occasionally have seeds), but of course, that will take years and years to production (5 to 20 years). I know that the UC Riverside Citrus Variety Collection and CCPP were trying to source budwood, but as of last year or year before, still no budwood available. And, once the CCPP does acquire budwood, it takes several years to produce clean budwood that can be sold to wholesale growers that can graft and grow trees for retail purchase. So, we've got a while to wait, still. If you live in the state of California, you must buy a citrus tree here in state. Citrus grown in other citrus-states cannot be shipped to California due to all the possible issues with the variety of different citrus diseases out there right now. The good news: we have some really, really outstanding mandarin cultivars to choose from that are as good or better than this cultivar. Seedless Kishu, Gold Nugget, Page, the "Golds" (Yosemite, Shasta, Tahoe), USDA 88-2, Clemenules just to name a few that are better :-)

Dekopan is a great tree to have, I'm sure it will be available in CA soon. For now, just enjoy the fruit you find at the grocery store.

Are dekopon trees particularly fussy/difficult to grow in a container? I'm relatively new to citrus, but I've had a Meyer lemon, Persian lime, and a calamondin indoors for about a year now. Those three seem to be doing well and I was hoping to get another citrus soon... I think the three I have are one of the easier container citruses and I'm a bit worried to venture out too far too quickly... Dekopons I had in Japan were amazing, and I'd love to grow one myself. Thanks!

window. It grows fast I got it last year about this time was half the size no fruit or blooms yet. i ordered it from harris citrus out of Florida. They are nice trees so far. This is a pic of when I got it.

I didn't know ccpp released budwood for shiranui.:) I am currently on a vacation to china and got my hands on shiranui fruits. The price is great around $1.25 per bl. After ate around 20 fruits I got two seeds. Of course getting bud wood will be a quicker way than from seedlings. By the way.. they call ugly mandarin by local people

And just received two Yosemite gold mandarin trees from fast growing trees. I heard from a friend that the fruit is great or even better than golden nugget mandarin.

Be the way... I am new to this website and still learning about citrus. I tried clift grafting on one of my satsuma with kishu and golden nugget around 3 weeks ago and now it starting to break through the tape. If anyone around San Fernando sharing hoppy citrus or dragon fruit trees then hit me up. I am sure I can help you a lot with dragon fruit trees
