And ivy, when it's happy, will take over the rest of your yard. And your neighbor's yard... :)

Even in this amazingly cold Winter, my Bignonia capreolata (Crossvine) is still green.
So is Jasminium sempervirens (Carolina jessamine) which come in a double flowered sort called 'Margerita', I believe. Both seem to bloom once a year, and rather briefly, and both might climb a tree and bloom at the very top. Winter, for the last 2 years, has not been a 7a one, despite the zoning maps. here near Ocean City, NJ.
I did have a most magnificent evergreen Clematis, supposedly hardy to zone 7a, but it died after about 3 years. A brief, entirely covering bloom, smelling of vanilla, in Spring. So I plan to buy C. spooneri, which is supposed to be even hardier. Not easy to find in the trade.
