im sorry but the powers to be did not even ask the members what we thought about changing and I cannot tell you how mad I am about this and they chose to do so right at peak trading time . How did they think this was a good idea ? it is not , it was a poor choice made by garden web and now they want us all to be happy with it ..well frankly Im not and Im seeing garden web and houzz going bye bye soon ... all the apologies in the world does not make me a happy camper or gardener . I cant find anything on here and navigating this site is a disaster and absolout disaster !!!

I also hate ads. Which is why I buy Garden Gate magazine only. No ads! This is an awful site to navigate. I couldn't get to te seed exhchange pages from my "My Houzz" page, which I also don't like at all. Had to re-type in Gardenweb.com in my broswer to get here from the main page. I'm not a Facebook person and Houzz is trying to keep up with FB. No thanks. Gardeners don't want to deal with all of this junk. We just want to get on, trade some seeds, and be done with it. I've been with GW for a long time, and this site is not user friendly at all for the simple person to use. I don't have hours and hours to sit and try to figure this all out. :( I'm thinking of just leaving and going to Dave's Garden and trade seeds. There's got to be other easier sites than this. I can't even figure out where to put my exchange list! UGH!!!!!!

Good idea lady alicia, maybe it's time I finally pay and become a member on Daves garden. I am not impressed with the houzz take over. I know all things eventually change, but this is not user friendly anymore on gardenweb.

I've been a member there for a long time also, but I just always seemed to like GW better. It's more cumbersome to find what I want to now because of the way Houzz is set up. I like being able to have the pictures, but that's about it. :) I don't think Dave's Garden costs anything to join. Or at least it didn't before.

I'd been trying to trade on Dave's Garden and always ended up just buying seeds online. While creating an account on DG is free, you're limited to 3 private message (cold email) per day. If the other party has responded before it doesn't count towards the 3. To participate in forums like seed trading and roundrobins, you need a paying membership.

I love DG for looking up plant reviews, asking help on Plant ID forum, but my attempts to trade there have been a big disappointment. Most everyone's published trade list is outdated, as it is quite troublesome and time consuming to maintain.

Try it, you'll see what I mean. GardenWeb IS THE BEST site for trading, by far! And the regulars here make it so.

I never really used DG much, so maybe that's why I didn't realize you had to pay. I've been with GW for so long and have traded with so many nice people on here over the years, so I really hope everyone hangs in there. At first I'll probably do everything wrong on here, but hopefully I'll get the hang of things!

Thanks for link. I've been bookmarking things so I know where to go to when I need something. Wish I could add a title to each bookmark, though, like Rate & Review, Postal Rates, etc., so I know what each link is. I'll figure something out. :)

And I saw the trade lists were back!! It was all scrambled on mine, though, so it needed edited. It wasn't in the order I had it on GW before, but I finally found that I could edit it once I went to Edit Profile, and then went to Advanced Settings over in the left-hand column.....if anyone is interested. It took me (and my husband!) about 15 minutes to figure out how the heck I could edit the list. :( But it's done. Whew!

Lady Alicia, do you mean bookmarks on your computer? If you're on a PC and using a Chrome or Firefox browser, it's really easy to change the name of a bookmark.

On Chrome, when you hit the star at the end of the address window to bookmark a site, in the popup that says "Bookmark added", there will be a place that says Name and the the name of whatever your bookmarking will be highlighted in blue. You can change that to say whatever you want.

On Firefox, it's pretty much the same. You hit the star to add the bookmark (turning it blue), then hit the star again and you can edit the name exactly as you would in Chrome.

Of course, if bookmarks on your computer aren't what you're talking about, disregard!

Its like that in any browser. I don't use Firefox nor Chrome and I add bookmarks for various reasons and always edit them to say what I want them to say. Also the option is there to create new folders to put those bookmarks in, so theoretically if you wanted to have a separate folder just for these new bookmarks you're talking about that would be the way to do it. Keeps it all in one place... P.S. Not that it matters, but I use 2 different browsers just because I like both and can't settle my mind on only 1 of them. I use Torch and Spark. They have built in video and torrent downloaders that other browsers don't do yet and I do those things. They also allow for themes that I can change every so often when I get tired of seeing the same old browser.

I'm sure it's the same on all browsers, but since I don't have any others but that, I didn't want to make a blanket statement and it not be true.

And you're totally right on using folders. When I was working on my thesis at the same time as a couple of web projects, putting things into folders saved my sanity.

Are we/will we be able to search trade lists? This was an important tool I used before to find people to trade with. If it is not available currently, it needs to be added back in.

asm198 - no, I don't use Firefox or Chrome. I have Internet Explorer on my laptop, but I rarely use it. I sign on with AOL and do everything through there; searching, etc. It's just the way I've been doing things since '95 and haven't changed. LOL I hate change!

And is there a way to lock your Ideabook so that others can edit it?? It's kind of stupid to allow people to mess with your page! Not that it surprises me that they have it set up this way, but we should be able to lock that so that only WE can edit and add to it.

We should also be able to label our Bookmarks once we add them.

I know what you mean and just checked mine and see that I cannot change the name of the discussion that I bookmarked in Houzz.

Besides bookmarking some things in Houzz posts, I also sometimes bookmark threads in my browser. Those threads are sorted and put in folders.
I have one browser folder named GW learning posts.
another browser folder named GW recipes.
Of course doing it this way, will save the entire thread, but that works for me, and I can rename the threads saved.

I also have a browser folder with bookmarks to all of my favorite forums, and the link to ALL of the GW forums, and to ALL of the Home Site forums....oh, and I save my member page to a GW folder too.

Are you talking about bookmarking in my browser? I have certain things I already do that with on AOL. I don't want to create more files within AOL for GW. I wanted to do it right within Houzz. There should be a way to set that up within Houzz.

Yes, that was a typo. It should have said "can't," not "can." I thought that since it said "Invite people to view or edit this Ideabook" under the Collaborate button, people could just add and edit my Ideabook once they were in it. Is that ONLY if you invite someone that they can add and edit your Ideabook?

I just deleted them from my Bookmarks and made Ideabooks for them. This way other people, and myself, can just go there, click on the link and see my Rates & Reviews or Postal Rates, etc. Easy peasy. That's all I wanted under my Bookmarks, but it's obviously just a generic page. There's always a way around things.

I haven't got a trade list and not trying to trade right now, but I have used an Ideabook to share with another member. I think that works very well and is easy to do. Otherwise, it doesn't appear the exchange function here is as good as it was on the old GW. I think I read somewhere they are still working on it.

I preferred the old way also, prairiemoon, but I think we're stuck with this setup. :( I'm trying to make the best of it and hang in there, though. I'm sure your tradelist will appear evenutally on your page. Mine just magically appeared one day. ;) To edit it, though, you have to go under Advanced Settings. Just FYI. It took me some time to figure that out.
