You have neutral cabinets, so you could go with a countertop with both warm and cool tones to maximize your other color choices, such as the backsplash. Paint the remaining wall space after you can match it to the countertop.

I think backsplash and paint would do wonders by themselves.

What kind of counters are you wanting?

what are your present counters made of?

we have a similar kitchen layout and cabinets we recently installed giallo ornamental granite and went for beige subway tile and a decorative accent line in the middle

present counters are formica but they are being replaced, would love to see Chanel, I would like granite

You can paint your cabinets white and then make counter and backsplash updates as desired to save money.

the cabinets look nice but I would never consider painting them especially since all my woodworking is matching

I would do a solid white or solid balck and leave the cabinets. they are not terrible.

I agree that you should NOT paint the cabinets. But what about putting some pulls on them? A little jewelry can make a big difference!
