pots for pepper plants

Hi,

I found a site that has 10 gallon pots (injection molded for $189.00 for 20 with free shipping. I didn't find any other sites that had them except for in store purchase so far. So do y'all think this is a good price or do you know of any cheaper? $ 9.45 seems like an ok deal to me but I've never bought any before.

The ad said " a full 10 gallons " I'll check out your link thanks

@ Ozzy those look pretty good I have looked at the aero bags before but they are pretty expensive for the number of plants I'm gonna have. That's a real reasonable price plus they look better than the 5 gallon buckets I have now. My girlfriend was complaining last year that it looked last me Sanford and son with all the bucket out last year haha.

The ones that I linked are the most durable they have. There are also 3-4 yr bags and 1 season bags. There are a lot of people that use the Walmart bags too. They may only last a season but they are only 50 cents.

You are lucky the nursery sold them to you. Often they recycle or sell them at retail... While not big enough I can get about 40 5 gal pots for $1.50 each if anyone needs..

i used viagrow plastic bags last year, they didn't deterioate so i think could use them 3 seasons.

they are really cheap even for 10 gals are .72, 20 gals 1.2, 30 gals 1.9

The question is : Do all peppers need 10 gallon pots Last year I used some grocery store re-useable . shopping bags. (90 cents to $1.25 each) at the end of season they were in tact. Larger one probably hold about 6 gallons and they sort of work like smart bags, that aerate the roots better than plastic pots.

Randal: Very interesting. I've been contending that large fruited annuums (Guajillo, Anaheim, Bells, etc)tucker out after the 1st flush in smaller containers. What varieties did you grow?

10's should be fine for just about anything though.

Seysonn: I say the bigger, the better, but I also believe it depends on length of season and variety... there's definitely many varieties out there that will do just fine in a 5.

Last year was the first year of growing more than a few jalapeño plants, but I didn't plan very well so I only had Thai hot, Thai dragon, golden Cheyenne, red Cheyenne, and a couple of orange habanero. And a Thai hot ornamental. I used 5 gallon buckets from ace hardware. I ended up with 26 5 gallon buckets with the store label on them. That's why my girlfriend said it looked like Sanford and son haha, bit I got a lot of peppers off them. I had 3 or 4 large harvest

I always struggle when I read threads like this. I never know if people are talking actual gallons, or if they're talking "trade gallons", which = .71 normal gallons...

Yeah I know what you mean its confusing for me looking at the info on them on the websites.

I'm really excited. I've been ordering all my stuff for my pepper business online, there's never been a place close (that I knew of) to get supplies. Somehow I came across a site in OKC and they carry almost everything that I use. I got my sheet pots for almost $30 cheaper than the cheapest place I'd found so far (well, most of that cost was shipping). While there I asked how much their 5 gal pots are (I use 5 gal, they seem to work just great for me), they sell them in a box 70 for $50 something. Wow! I almost wonder if they got that turned around. ;-) I'm so excited that I found them. YEA!

If you really want to get confused, figure out the cubic inches volume of the 5 and 7 gallon Viagrow bags on Amazon. The 5 gals are larger than the 7s!

    Pam, what are sheet pots?

That's a great deal Pam, I'm going to order some of the 10 gallon pots next weekend I think I'll plant some super hots in both 10 and 5 gallon pots to see if I notice any difference.

mecdave, do a google search on sheet pots and look at the pictures. They are for starter plants, I usually get the 3201 deep, than means there are 32 pots per sheet, they fit into a regular size flat. the 3201 are 2.5" square and 3" deep.

toolstack.. No Fooling! ;-) I keep feeling that the husband got it wrong and it was 50 pots for $70, but, only reason I think he got it right cos he didn't say 50 but something like $55.90. Hopefully he wrote it down and I can see it. Let us know what you see in comparing the two sizes.
