My thoughts too, on the silicone, but hey Wacky: Doncha think that the give in the silicon would protect the grout from cracking? It has quite a lot of flexibility.

I am very frustrated at the change in this forum. Houzz had no record of my email address, and I was not able to sign in with my former user name or password. What hoops I had to go through to get back on here. Therefore, the name change from Slowmedown to texaswild - wild w/frustration.

Thank you wackyweeder and slowmedown as was. (I agree about the changes with Houzz.) A metal fabricator is making the frame now, and we told him it needs to be pretty rigid. I have also heard that liquid nails works well for tile to metal, but it gets really hard, doesn't stay flexible like silicone, right? Also there are the fumes, though I'll be working outside.

Thanks very much for the advice. I often read this forum, don't often ask questions. I've only been making mosaics for 3-4 years, and don't have a lot of free time, so I only make about four things a year, and usually give them as gifts. Completely self-taught, have learned a lot from many mistakes, but I love doing it, just getting very focused on cutting and placing pieces restores my sanity! This project is pretty simple, but it's going to be public, so I don't want to mess it up.

I think breaking my hip affected my brain. After I posted the first comment I realized my mistake. The silicon is flexible but the grout is NOT. What's the matter w/me? Sorry.

well Hi Slow! Yes I dont like this at all. An epoxy grout can manage some flexiblility, but With wind, temp expansion of the metal, eh, Id want to make sure it lasts.

I do not like this new format at all and I also hate that I couldn't keep my old name despite the fact that I had checked the box to keep my old sign in name and password! I was crafty_lady!
