Your off to a good start, I like the chairs and that they don't match. What area of the Toronto do you live?

Next is the buffet, then art work, decorative accessories, and if you want at the end, you could change the dining table. An area rug will truly dress up the room, providing an anchor and focal point. Dont be afraid of selecting loose pieces that are not matchy! being eclectic adds personality and character to your spaces.

Choose your largest and most expensive pieces first. Look for that new table and maybe a buffet or side board..and yes they certainly do not need to match (in fact I prefer it). Next a rug..be sure you have some good pattern in the room, then window treatments, art work. Choose large pieces for your walls...and go up..a very tall, large, framed mirror over a buffet makes a great statement and helps set the stage. The last thing to choose is the paint color. buy samples and paint them on poster boards (2 coats) hold them around the room to decide color...do not put paint samples directly on walls.

I like that wall color, although I'm wondering if four walls of it, with one sidelit window, might not darken the room a bit. I also like your easygoing approach to customizing your look, and not being obliged to match everything.

On a wall like that, artwork, definitely, and given the strong beiges, coffees, mahogany, and cream neutrals, I'd encourage a foray into color -- artwork is one of the best ways to bring this in to any room.

What further furniture you put in (buffets, side tables, etc.), will make a difference in the size of the artwork -- I am appending two photos, one with Dancer and Magenta, smaller, framed works set on the diagonal; the other with Eyrie, which is larger and gallery wrapped (no frame needed), an element you might want to consider because the clean, flawless lines of gallery wrap go well with the clean, crisp look of the furniture already there.

And I'll add my usual caveat, encouraging you to keep artwork for the last, after much consideration. Buy based upon what pleases you first, and what goes with the furniture, second. Artwork, more than any other element of the room, makes a personal statement about the person who lives there.
