The roof looks newer and is gray, and gray is classic on your cottage-y house, especially with bright white trim. With all those leaves, be sure to put some type of cover over the gutters!!! A larger peaked structure OR a straight overhang along the front would work. See "cottage" photos on Houzz. You didn't show the entire front, so a bit difficult to suggest start and end points, height, etc.

I like the dark trim next to the roof on the pointy parts.

What about a rounded overhang with corbels?

thanks yes the roof is newer, its really a greenish gray. I'll get a better picture of the entire front tomorrow. I hate the deck. it doesn't go with the style house. there are red brick steps under it. they are only the width of the the door. I'd like to make the entire stoop wider. I yhi k I do want gray just don't know exactly what shade.

What a wonderful house! So much character! I would go with a soft butter yellow with white gutters and trim with a pop of color for the door. Perhaps a bright blue? The lighter colors will make your home look larger and more cottage like.

I'd also change the storm door to one that is solid glass so that your door looks bigger and shows from the street. And if it's in the budget I'd upgrade the light, doorbell button and door hardware.
