Ordered appliances today.

(Does anyone else keep going to the bottom to start a thread?)

Feeling chatty.

Finally. Happy as a clam I am. (I actually think DH is about as excited as I am though he hasn't said that.) Ordered from our lovely, local mom and pop store and they're just wonderful for a variety of reasons. Got to finally see the stove in person and wasn't disappointed. Everything will be in on Tuesday except the refrigerator.

Went with all GE Cafe. The fridge is the CD french door, no ice. If you remember our fridge is in the middle of the cabinet run looking all odd. I really wanted to add side panels and pull the upper cabinet forward, but the cut out is smaller than standard size and we would have had to drop below a 20 cu ft. which just isn't going to work for us. The CD will still be a visual improvement and I've decided to make peace with the issue. Went with another OTR microwave. The other one experienced a fire from a 'sweet potato bag' incident last year (Christmas gift!) and we've been using a counter microwave since. I'm thankful we have one, but looking forward to it being visually gone from the counter.

I figured it would take a few weeks for them to arrive, so the time frame is exciting. I'm not sure if they'll make two delivery trips or wait until they have everything. They did ask and I told them whatever was easier. We're having company next weekend so I might get to use the new stove! I remembered the range comes with a Lodge griddle. I've never used cast iron and I'm half afraid to scratch or drop something on the top (electric).

Bought a spiffy new pack of microfiber cloths today and hoping the stainless and glass top isn't too much up keep. Then if I get the hundi style lanterns.......Oye. I'm still leaning that direction though.

I went to buy a Calphalon ceramic pan tonight. Went to FOUR different places and couldn't find one. They were either out of stock or didn't carry them. I didn't feel like ordering online and since I went on a big search I didn't want to come home empty handed! Can anyone else relate? I bought a ceramic pan by Tl Mulino. (? Hard to read the logo.) It's pretty, ceramic, and flat on the bottom. Hoping it works just lovely.

That is exciting! I remember that feeling...then they sat in the middle of the kitchen for so long that I started coordinating colors with the Cardboard boxes....then the boxes sort of disintegrated from being moved around so much!!

Funny, I just picked up that brand of pan at TJ Maxx!! I needed a new non stick for eggs, and I really like it! I also got a really cute saucepan...Sophie Conran, I think, marked down to $15, from $70, because the lid is gone.

    Congrats on the appliances!

Very exciting! The new appliances will change the look of your kitchen even more than you imagine--- it is going to look even better than it does already. I can't wait to see them in place! I hope you enjoy cooking in the new kitchen, Shee. It is really satisfying to love the room you spend so much time in.

Oooo, I love new stuff, although I hate the decision process. I remember when all my appliances arrived at once when the kitchen was remodeled. It was kind of overwhelming. Enjoy your new toys. I have never found the stainless hard to care for at all.

We replaced ours with stainless as each appliance needed it. I was so happy when everything finally matched! You'll love it and we can't wait for your reveal. I have found the stainless hard to care for either. You already have my favorite microfiber cloths. Add a little water and go to it. If you worry about germs, use a mild white vinegar-water solution.

How exciting! It's going to look great. I can't wait till I can replace my 15 year old white appliances. My dishwasher is at death's door.

Looking forward to seeing your final pics.

Can't wait to see it all!

Have one coat of Shaker Beige on the backsplash. I don't like it, but think it will be fine once everything is in place. I was used to seeing it white and the stark appliances aren't helping at the moment.

Lighting is an issue. We have Xenon puck lights as under cabinet lighting. They are 20w G8 base and I can't seem to find any other bulbs to use in them. I don't know how much of a difference it would really make if I could. I LOVE GE Reveal bulbs and use them wherever I can. The can light above the sink is Reveal and the color is so much cleaner/crisp there (night). It feel it looks dingy under the cabinets.

When the new chandelier went up I bought halogen bulbs because I thought you'd still be able to see the Reveal ones through the frosted globes & organza shades. I was hoping the same kelvin temp would be fine, but it's just not the same. I think it looks dingy on that side of the room at night too. I actually don't think you'll see the purple bulbs and am going to switch those back to Reveal so at least the whole kitchen won't look dingy at night.

I finished painting yesterday and am trying to be optimistic. I really can't stand the splash being the same color as the walls. Our under cabinet lights are on most of the time and it turns the color a yucky wheat that looks worse at night. Golden with maybe even a green tint. Oh yuck. I don't like how it looks against the counters. I'm hiding my keys to wait and see how I feel after the appliances are in, but I see myself buying samples of White Down, Muslin, and maybe more. Since my counters are speckled with not large spans of white, I think it would best to have the splash the same as the walls, but maybe the whole darn kitchen would just look better another (similar) color. I should probably start a thread, but am limiting what I post here these days - I will post a reveal. I just know I spent too much time on all this to not like the backsplash color. If I could only jam GE Reveal bulbs in those under cabinet lights.

Also turns out they don't make that refrigerator anymore. They new model looks the same and is a tad larger, yay. No word yet as to when they'll be here.

They're here and beautiful. At first I felt like the stove was a little much for my kitchen, but I'm getting used to it. A pro range would look odd for sure.

I'm still a little intimidated to touch/use them. The few smudges and sticky tape residue came off very easily with a microfiber cloth and water. I don't see us using the Lodge griddle at this point.

I still think the splash color looks different under the cabinets than on the walls, but MUCH better since all the white is gone. I'm sure it will grow on me.

The new fridge is 23 cu ft. instead of the 20.1 that was discontinued, yet it's almost the exact same dimensions. There is an issue with one refrigerator door where a few areas look like dents, but is smooth to touch. Also the top edge of the freezer door has something weird going on with foam and/or glue. They're going to send someone out to see how they're going to correct it. I know they'll take care of it.

Beverly was right about the island light looking even more dated once the appliances went in. The new lights won't go up until probably March or April.

I think I'm going to keep the antique brass hardware for now. I believe I'd like satin nickel or pewter, but still don't have a strong preference either way at this point.

Two of the old appliances are going to a friend and are hanging out beside the table. Hopefully take some pics in the next few days.

I have papers here saying "Use Cerama Bryte to apply a protective coating before using your cooktop for the first time."

I did this and now it looks streaky and greasy. Is this really necessary to use on a regular basis? Is it a marketing thing or does it really provide some type of protection to the glass top? I think it started to dry before I started wiping it off so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Papers and manual also say to wait until spills cool (except high sugar spills) before trying to clean up. I guess I should pick up a razor blade over the weekend for the top.

How nice for you! What you've shared of your home is beautiful and I'm sure you'll find the right color. Lighting is always off in my kitchen too and I've struggled to find the right color. That hasn't happened yet :) can't wait to see everything in place.

The Ceramabryte works really well for giving it a clean shine. You have to buff all the residue off with clean, dry paper towels. Looking forward to the pics!

I am also anxious to see the pics shee.

You did such a nice job on the cabinets that I want to see the end results.

I use only ceramabryte to clean my glass top. Scrub with wet paper toweling; wipe residue with damp paper toweling; and dry buff with dry paper toweling. Never, never clean the top with a used dish rag, unless it's to wipe up a spill, after which clean with ceramabryte before heating the top again. I've never had to use a razor blade, just elbow grease and ceramabryte. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. You've put a lot of work into your reno!

Java - How much ceramabryte do you use? A few drops? I'm assuming the wet towel helps move things around better. What I thought was a lot didn't go very far, but I was using a dry towel. I also received a special yellow scrub pad by ceramabryte. It says you can rinse and reuse, but throw away when dirty so it doesn't scratch. I think I'll be picking up another pack of microfiber cloths. I can only imagine the amount of paper towels we'll be going through!

    Thank you everyone. Stay tuned.

I use a bit more than a few drops... Probably a tablespoonful if the entire top needs scrubbing. If, for instance, I've only used one burner and "slopped" a bit, a couple of drops will be enough. If I've sauteed something, a bit more. Despite the number of paper towels, it's way easier to clean than open burners or coils! I've cooked on glass tops since the first Corning glass top (late 60s? early 70s?) when my mother installed one in her new build.

I use cerambryte but have never cleaned with paper towels. I'm wondering about the purpose of the paper towels??? I use a clean wet cloth with the cerambryte and then dry with a microfiber cloth. If there is any film (at any time, not just after cleaning) use a bit of alcohol and a microfiber cloth. It will gleam! The little scrubby pad is for cooked on spots. I rarely have to use it. My stove is new but my last one was also a ceramic top. It came with a little razor blade thingy but I only used it a time or too. You have to be very careful as you don't want to scratch your cooktop.

Hmm. If there's food you're trying to clean off, isn't is going to scratch when you clean it? Wouldn't the food particles scratch the surface? Is that the point in the cloth or towel being wet/damp? In general, I was wondering if buffing with paper towels would cause scratches. Ours are currently textured. Guess they won't since they recommend using them!

I still can't believe people are brave enough to use the Lodge griddle on the glass. There are little metal feet on the bottom and the thing weighs a ton. I'd use it on a gas stove. It's a big paperweight for us. Not sure what to do with it.

I'm getting on my own nerves with the newness of this. Since I'm not familiar with a smooth top or stainless, I don't know how much abuse it can take and, of course, I don't want to damage it. I'm going to USE these appliance so I'm going to have to get over it.

Got a call this morning about the refrigerator and it's being taken care of. There was a set of three scratches (pretty large) near the logo on the stove, I only pointed it out because I thought it looked like box cutter marks. I was going to leave it alone because nobody but me will ever notice them and, struggling to find balance as a perfectionist, I think it's good for me to live with certain things that are bothersome. They feel that panel needs replaced and are going to do so. (They gave an explanation as to what they felt the scratches were from and I don't believe it was caused by them.)

I made eggs this morning and noticed, before I started, there are a few tiny hairline scratches near the one burner. I'm going to leave this alone. I'm having a hard time believing I caused it since I didn't use it until today. The installers were very careful.

Getting ready to make some cheesecake for tomorrow!

If there are particles of food/crumbs, I pick them up first with a damp towel before using ceramabryte. I've even been known to use a dustbuster. ;)

I bought a kit from the appliance store that contained a ceramic cleaner, scrub pads, a razor blade scraper, a polish, and a microfiber cloth. I only use the polish now and then, and I don't have to use the cleaner (it's something with a Whirlpool label on it but I have also used Weiman's) but a few times a week, depending on how much cooking I have done. I use my cast iron skillet frequently, but carefully, as I do all the pans. I do use a paper towel and glass cleaner to get the initial grease off, and then shine it up with a vinegar-water mixture sprayed on.

Java - I SO need to buy a dustbuster! My mom had one when I was a kid and everyone poked fun at her because it was in hand a lot. One time a relative hid it jokingly, ha. I often find myself thinking it would be really convenient to have one.

Outsideplaying - Thanks for the feedback how you clean your cooktop.

I feel much more comfortable today using it, but the main oven isn't baking evenly. The back is hotter. My other GE stove didn't do this to this extent. I checked the top with a level and it's good. I'll have to say something.

    Looking forward to pictures!!!
