Tile is always a good choice for Southwest Florida, especially if you are near the beachs or swim in pools alot. And tile is so much easier to clean thoroughly than carpeting. I would stay away from wall to wall carpeting because of the moisture and humidity problem. Area rugs are good because they are easier to change out than wall to wall.

Depends on the room. We put carpeting in the bedrooms, but have tile everywhere else.

When we remodeled our home, we put carpeting in the bedrooms, when it comes time to replace the carpeting it will be either tile or wood floor.

Yuk wall to wall carpeting harbors too many varmits (bacteria, virus, spores, etc...) It's not like you can pick it up and throw i in the washing machine. Even if you clean the top layer, you can never get what is hiding below. We know better in this day and age.
