It may have fried the leaves that were on it in two minutes but I don't think it killed the plant. Take off the dead stuff and keep it watered and in the sun and it should leaf back out soon. It may need some extra light this time of year inside if you can arrange that. Any fluorescent light will work. Also try and raise the humidity around it by placing a dish or cup of water next to it. Don't fertilize it until it has new leaves. Then I'd go half strength to start with. I know we have a long wait yet until it gets warm enough but get it outside as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice, seil! I'm glad there's still hope. I've got some good south windows in addition to fluorescent lighting. I'll keep the humidity up, cross my fingers, and see what happens!

Happily, this plant did come back from the dead! I had overwatered it but stuck the rootball in perlite to dry it out and began to see some new growth about a week later. It isn't outside yet (still having some snow & frosts), but has been very happy so far in a south window. Yay!

That's great news! Yeah, over watering is the thing most people do that kills plants. I've been guilty a time or two myself. That's why I recommend putting a cup of water next to the plant instead of a try under it now. It brings up the humidity but there's no chance of the roots drowning.
