Shredded Cardboard Question

I am a vermicompost novice with two bins right now (rubbermaid style with some holes given to me and a Worm Factory). The rubbermaid bin is mostly filled with shredded office paper. The Worm Factory has the coconut coir that came with it, as well as a little newspaper.

Some googling indicates that shredded paper seems not to be an ideal bedding (and that bin seems awfully clumpy), but lots of folks seem to like shredded corrugated cardboard. I actually have a ton of this on hand right now, but was wondering how it needs to be prepared to use as bedding, and how small of chunks it needs to be cut into.
