I finally was able to get back in since this crazy change to houzz...Mark me as a tentative Paula, I'm not sure about the work schedule yet. I loved getting to meet everyone last year and have been looking forward to getting to spend some time talking gardens again. :)

I'd like to, but may have to wait until closer to say for sure. And hopefully by then we'll be close enough to moving that I can start gardening.

And seeds or plants are a requirement to attend!!! Seriously, we usually have so much to share that you may find yourself coming in an empty vehicle and leaving looking like a traveling greenhouse! Well, not that bad but probably close!

Lisa, I think I did pulled pork and wheat rolls last year, but I don't remember if I did anything else. I think I remembered yours before I remembered mine. Al liked the cornbread salad and has mentioned it a few times.

Did someone say bamboo? :) If anyone needs bamboo canes, please get in touch with me. I don't think I'll be able to bring any to the fling this year, with Sprout's car seat I cannot fold down my seats like I used to. And don't feel like you need to wait for the fling ... I've got bamboo year 'round!

I was thinking about your bamboo the other day, in fact. If I ever get a break from gardening where my body isn't complaining, I'll be glad to help clear out some bamboo. I actually have transportation to get there. I'll comment on this thread to you if that happens.

I love bamboo! I used it all over my yard last year every time a sprout of hyacinth popped out I would stick bamboo there and it made the best garden. No fuss just easy and beautiful.

I'm new to the forum after lurking for forever but would love to come.

I have now moved to the OKC area and would love to come; not sure if I can make it or not. But I have previously participated in the seed exchanges and loved it!! I now have a much smaller yard :( but, I am still going to plant some things of necessity for us. I miss my big garden area very much, but am looking forward to adjusting to a somewhat squarefoot gardening method.

I know...crazy silly that I'm stoked about such a simple accomplishment...but hey, I'll take my "giggles" where I can get them. I still haven't planted one single onion or seed. I need "giggles".

Just wondering how this works. It's a meet-up and we bring seeds and food...like a church potluck meal? If we're new to gardening and don't have any seeds from our plants, do we just bring seeds that we've purchased? I have lots of herbs sitting around my kitchen that I use for cooking.

And how do we find out the location of the meet-up?

Yes, it is potluck. You don't have to bring anything plant wise to share if you don't have it, a lot of us will bring extras :) The new member will post all the instructions, I am sure.. We do do a "door prize", so you might think of something to bring for that. This year I am so excited, I have an extra Oklahoma butterfly book because I thought I lost mine, but oops, found it! So my entry this year will be the book and a couple packets of seed. It was almost going to be a coffee can of my precious compost, but, whew, I found the book! I don't remember what all I have brought in the past, but I am not nearly as creative as some. A year or two ago one lady painted (birdhouse?) gourds...they were gorgeous!

I agree with the others. Just bring yourself and don't worry if you don't have seeds or plants to spare. Every single one of us was new at some point and didn't have extra plants or seeds to share, and that's okay.

After you've attended your first Spring Fling, you'll have a better idea of what to expect in future years, but some things remain constant----and one of those things is that there's always so many different plants there (not just raised from seed, but obtained by dividing perennials, digging up volunteers, etc.) that the folks who brought them are pleading with people to please take them and give them a good home.

The door prizes can be anything too, and don't even have to be new. There's usually a nice assortment of both useful and decorative garden items, gardening gloves, hand tools like trowels or different kinds of weeders, flower pots, etc. Sometimes someone will bring home-canned goodies from their garden to share, or handmade artisan soap or crafts they've made, or fresh eggs from their chickens or anything else you can imagine. One year George brought a bottle of fresh milk from his goats. The Spring Fling is just like a box of chocolates----you never know what you're going to get.

Most of all, though, you get a gardening family. Non of my siblings garden, but being at the Spring Fling reminds me every year that I do indeed have a whole extended family of gardeners, which is just the best thing on earth.

And sometimes we have so many extras we just give them to random people that stop by.
