Eureka lemon tree, try #2

I once had a eureka lemon tree that I drowned because I planted it too deep. I have learned a lot since I bought that tree and I figured I'd try my hand at growing one again since the trees are looking nice and this is the time of year to plant in ground trees in my neck of the woods. This one is on volkameriana and already 6' tall in a 5 gallon pot. It had some blooms on it already too. Sorry if the photos end up sideways I'm still figuring out the new site format.

What a difference 2 years will make. I planted this tree in February of 2015 and this is what it looks like as of last week. I have yet to get any viable fruit off of this tree, it's holding onto about 25 unripe lemons but that could change next week when we are heading into 120 degree territory. Once we hit about 115-117 my trees start dropping fruit like it's the thing to do in order to preserve energy and try to survive.

Even, your trees are always so beautiful, you do a wonderful job growing them and I love seeing their progress. Even though I don't think it is necessary where I live I am tempted to paint my trunks white so they can look this nice lol.

Wow Evan! What tremendous growth!! Incredible. It's good you took that pic initially to track the growth.

This tree has come a long way, here is a 5 year update!!!

This tree pumps out 75-100 lbs of lemons annually. Too many for me, my family, my neighbors, and coworkers. Eureka is definitely productive.

Evan, you got to be the healthiest person on the face of the earth. My yield is so small in comparison that I have to substitute with pills. Not fair!

Wish I have some tree’s that looks like yours, like others, just do the best possible.

Amzing growth Evan over the past five years! I still can't get over that trunk. Your trees do better there inland then I've seen some in vista that take twice as long to kick off.

LOL Bob, no chance of scurvy in my household. We cook a lot with lemons and every chance we get, incorporate them into our meals. You do very well yourself with your potted citrus, from what I’ve seen you’ll have a lot this year.

Evan Why did you trim your tree. It doesn't look that big. I am hoping to grow my in ground NZL and Valentine Pomelo to a size of about 7 feet wide by 10 feet tall by 2.5 feet deep. Not quite espalier. Just curious.

Steve, It was getting unruly, I like to walk around my garden and trees. When it starts to warm up I post up underneath them with folding chairs and immerse myself in the citrus forest. With the branches the way they were it was an impossibility. Plus it helps reduce the amount of fruit that it produces. I will still have more lemons than I know what to do with.
