I think this winter is much colder and the snow came later. I've been grumbling about shoveling snow this year, but I seem to recall we got much heavier snows last winter. The good news is, we'll be seeing crocus blooms in a few weeks!

People seem to forget the winter, and always think this one is the worst. Honestly this year seems about average to me. We had two days I think in the negatives, low temps 5-15, about a foot of snow on the ground, all normal here.

Just checked my gardening journal. Last winter we had 60+ inches of snow. So far this winter maybe 15-18 inches. In my neck of the woods anyway.

And in the past, my crocus bloomed between 2/24 and 3/14. So worst case scenario I have to wait 3 weeks for bloom. Boy am I ready for spring!

I think last year it was cold and wet toward the end of winter. So I had to plant the veges very late. But still somehow I think this winter is not very cold. As I said, the bamboos still retain all green leaves. We had such a mild December. So I know the cold would come late. Just hope for a normal spring. I remember garlic farmers had a bad year last year.
