I have two inside bins one homemade and one factory 360. I have noticed something for a while now. Usually when I add food I try to add the same to both bins at the same locations so I know where to look at a later date to see if the food has been used. What Im noticing is that within 24 hrs the worms are highly congregated where I placed the food in the "360" but in the "homemade" bin it takes at least 48 hrs. In this last food placement the food was placed in the most distant corner or side from the previous so either they had to travel the length of the bin to get there or some that were already in the area. There would some distance of travel where as one bin they would have to travel 19" compared to 23" provided they traveled as the crow flies. Im beginning to ponder the thought that the 360 herd is now larger than the homemade.

Also of note, after what seemed maybe 2 or 3 days of the masses intense feeding frenzy of the latest food bash almost in mass the migration transferred to the other half of the feeding bin where most of the eggshell/cornmeal mix was , man do they like that stuff. This is taking place in my 360 which seems to be paying for itself now.

Yes I save up my used eggshells , put them in my microwave for about 5min on some kind of paper plate or micro safe dish, you can use a toaster oven, or oven for the same purpose to kill any salmonella or othe toxins. Then I put them in my food chopper till all the eggshells are pulverized as small as I can get them and add maybe the same portion or more of white cornmeal. I sprinkle this across the top of the bedding but under my top shredded paper layer. Usually more cornmeal than egg.

Is there anything magic about white cornmeal? All I have on hand is yellow. Thanks for the answers! m

Yellow is fine as far as I know.
