Hi Melody, I have the 2 you mentioned in small starter plants. I got my starts from Violets and More on at www.facebook.com/violetsandmore. Jenny is in Nebraska but I ordered them & soil & pots and she got them to me in great shape & quick. I'm about to order 4 or 5 new leaf pairs from her again of some beauties she's offering this Spring.. When you explore her web site you'll see another pretty one I have to offer called 'Pink Delight' but she comments it's not Asa's. She breeds some that are her own. Let me know some names you have. Please advise what is the name of this Forum? I cannot find it from Garden Web Forums, the only way I get to it is from responding to an email alert. I thought it was a subtopic of the Exchanges & Trades Forum, but when I try to find it, the African Violet Exchange is not listed as a subtopic. Is it a subtopic on another Forum? Select ADVISE at top of page all the way on right. It gives you a choice of Garden Web topics. I chose Exchanges & trades, then I select African Violets & on the page that comes up, down a little is my 1st post. ---I think if you click on my web name it lets you send me an email.

Melody Rose, You have a fantastic selection! You like a lot of the same colors that I do! I will eventually inquire about trading. Right now, I don't have much in bloom. However, once I fulfill some outstanding promises and go through my collection, I will let you know what I have that might be of interest. My plants had a quiet winter where they were nearly dormant and now are getting used to a new environment, so they have not quite bounced back yet. A few more weeks of spring, they will be happier. I think it is easier to put all our stuff in Ideabooks, because you can label the photos also. I can never find my old trade list and I have given up. I made an Ideabook labeled Stuff to Trade. And since it is on my Profile page it is easy to find!!!! And I discovered that if you need to post a pic and you have it in your Ideabook and that is where you upload it from it takes anyone who clicks on it to your Ideabook!!!!!! Just an idea I had this morning after GREAT frustration. --Rosie

!Melody Rose,,,,I just looked at your posted list. WOW and beyond that I don't know what to say!! Do you have a spare HUGE house with no furniture in it and just plant shelves next door to you? You have more varieties than I have ever seen one person have.

Woah, I have a small collection! You flatter me. I have more than that's on that list btw ;) I only have 1 (soon to be 2) light stands plus a smaller stand and table for natural light ones.

The president of my local Violet society only has 1000 plants now but she used to have 2000 on 14 light stands. She does have a mobile home for them!

Melody Rose you have MORE?????? I remember in the very early 70's as my collection grew and of course I propagated my brains out,,,, my husband built me a 2 tiered shelf. At first it was more room than I needed and then,,,,,,,,.

We moved 3 years later and he had to saw it apart to make 2 free standing shelves and then I started using any table I could find to supplement. AND I was selling the babies in styrofoam cups as soon as they opened their first flower.

Course it didn't help that I got a job at a greenhouse that only grew what are now antique and vintage violets! Needless to say,,,,,not much of my paycheck came home!!! Just kidding.

Then the girls needed more and more of my attention and life got in the way. And somewhere varieties I never heard of were being born in secret. Now I am trying to get my beautiful vintage and antique violets back. Tough job because there are so many new ones! AND those Russian types!!!! AND Rob's AND,,,,,AND,,,,,,AND,,,,,AND!!!!!!

This winter I had several pans of leaves in various stages of growth and very slowly near the end of winter it started to get very cold. It was so gradual it took a minute to realize what was happening. We live in a house built in 1879 with a Michigan basement so when the wind is howling and the temp is -20 with the wind chill we will be cold even if the furnace is working.

We called the furnace guy out and it took 3 days to get a new motor. Guess everyone had a problem with their furnace. I lost almost all of the leaves. A few big ones died and a couple are trying to survive. We will see.....

Now I am slowly rebuilding with trades.

BUT as big as this old house is,,,,,I could NEVER fit that many in here! My hat is off to you!--Rosie

It's Saturday & my mail arrives around noon so I'm excitedly watching for them. I'll send a private message when they arrive.

Ok! What I thought was Paradise Lost turned out to be Starry Night when I read the tag in the pot! It is a better plant that Paradise Lost. It is one of my most reliable performers.

I went to a plant sale recently, so in a few months when everything grows out, I will have more to share.

Joanne they didn't arrive today after all. I'll watch Monday's mail. Leaves take a week long trip better than plants so I'm sure they will be o.k. After all California to Louisiana is quite a ways.

They should have arrived long before this, I mailed them priority mail from a UPS store on Tuesday, then went out Tuesday at 2. They should have arrived on Thursday or Friday. They are in a lightbulb box. I did not get a tracking number. That will teach me. Supposedly, leaves can be ok for two weeks and these are from very strong varieties. I have learned the hard way that when mailing plant material, sometimes, anything that can go wrong will go wrong. If they don't arrive by Tuesday, I will go to the UPS store. They have the info in their computer, which is one good advantage about using UPS, even though the cost is a little higher. they mail them US Mail, but add their own tracking in the computer. It is not tracking of the shipment, it is tracking on my account of what i mail through them. I have a mail box with them, so I have an account. my mailing address for plants is my residence, not my UPS box.

Let's expect the best. Recently someone sent leaves from near Dallas, Tx & the USPS tracking showed they went to Ohio to get to me in south central LA. That didn't sound right & took 2 extra days but they arrived fine. By the way 'Starry Night' is so pretty! Thank you again for sharing. I'll let you know if they get here Monday. Ok, thanks. Are you in a rural area? Probably, Ohio is a central hub for the mail. Thanks for the reassuring words. Starry Night is one of the very first violets I got from Lyon's and one of my favorites. I have had it for many years! It is an excellent performer and never suckers. It grows symmetrically. I moved it to a 6" pot so it got large. But I suggest not letting it get larger than a 4". (Paradise Lost has trailer genes and brittle leaves, so it is rather wild-looking.)

I live in a subdivision & Youngsville is just out of Lafayette, LA. My mail lady knows I'm always getting plants & gets as excited as me when she's got a pkg. to bring to my door. Maybe we'll both or should I say all three of us will be glad if they come Monday.

Same here, I have a mail lady, too. She likes to pop in for a second and look at my plants.

I am being a complete ding-dong,OF COURSE, you got it, you reused the same box! Duh!

I don't think I saw the email but I have been having trouble getting email since my account was hacked. I will let you know by email. I enclosed the flower so you would know what the bloom will look like. It will probably be much darker than that. For some reason, the plant is now covered in blooms that color. It used to send up larger blooms but fewer of them in a darker shade.
