My friend sold his house and buyer is going to raze the house and build a new one. I broke off 3 large 'branches' from a giant Ferox Aloe. I'd love to save/re-grow them. I live in San Francisco, they should do well.

My backyard is in a state of transition (I guess that goes without saying), so I'd like to get them re-established in pots, and perhaps plant in the ground later.

For now I have taken a clean cut, left about 6" of stalk and stuck them in organic potting soil in containers. They are in a sunny spot and I plan on not watering them for a couple weeks, although it could rain.

Any recommendations for transitioning these beauties into their new home?

side note: is it good/bad/indifferent to snip off the flowering stalk when it is done flowering?
