Go for same color on cabinets...

kelhen, I appreciate your input! That was my original plan and then I chickened out. The cabinets are laminate and I was concerned

the paint would peel and look even worse than they do with the fake wood grain (if that's possible) Ha! Here is another befor and after from a different angle.

Love the jazzy curtains; they add so much life to the room.

Talk to someone at the paint store there may be a primer to put on first, if so tint primer same color as paint. Grey cabinets would look great

Thank you all for your comments. You are giving me the confidence to bite the bullet! Do you think it would look best to use the same color on the cabinets as the door. Or should I use a third color. I had thought about a lighter grey.

I painted laminate cabinets hoping to ruin them (to get new ones), anyway, they came out great. Use good primer!

You will be so happy if you do it. My sister painted her cabinets that looked exactly like yours and now it looks fresh and modern. It was eight years ago and it still looks good. It's all about the primer and good quality paint.

I finally got up the nerve to paint my cabinets! Thank you all for your encouragement! Next, I would like to get new counters. I'm thinking of butcher block, but am concerned they will get damaged next to the sink.

You did a v. nice job. I know it's a lot of work, but it paid off. Butcher block I don't think is in style.

Your cabinets look amazing! It was a good choice to paint them. I painted mine and love how they turned out. If your countertop is in good shape you might want to try painting that too. I used a rustoleum countertop paint as a base and sponge painted accent colors to make it look like granite and then put a sealer on top. No regrets and lots of compliments.

Wow. That turned out great. Change the hardware to match your door hardware.

I love your curtains too. The color adds a lot of pop. Take a panel and make curtains over your sink (or would that make your kitchen too dark?).

Well done! Are your dining / breakfast room chairs painted or wood finish? I saw chairs just like yours recently, spray painted the same red as your curtains - they looked fantastic. The gray and white look great but need something more to make it pop.

The chairs have white backs, but wooden seats to match the table. I did paint an old toy chest that I have converted into a file the same red as the garage entry door. I have also lined one of the shelves in the desk with some of the fabric from the curtains. I am planning to make a small valance for the kitchen window using burlap and trim it with some of the curtain fabric. I also have some colorful plates that I want to hang on the soffits. Finally, I want to either paint or line the inside of the upper cabinets where we removed the doors - not exactly sure yet. It is definintely a work in progress and I appreciate everyone's encouragement and advice.

So proud of you! I, too, painted my cabinets in my kitchen. It took me 12 years to get up the stamina and courage! lol Your kitchen looks fantastic! Love your designing sense and capabilities!

Excellent! Thank you for the pic of your fireplace. The brick is very nice but having so many objects on and against it makes it look very busy. Would you think about just a few really stylish pieces in say white, black, and light green that will provide a contrast? A cohesive collection in varying heights is what I have in mind.
