Don't know who did the design and plan - or even the implementation, but it is difficult to believe that it could get this far without the issue being addressed. Whoever did this, is an example of the unprofessionalism that we hate to see in our industry.

Hard to tell here, hopefully the shingles have not been put on the new porch roof. The only resolution is to build a saddle over to the gable roof and a valley in order to direct water runoff. It would be worthwhile to reroof the gabled areas at the same time the porch roof is completed so that everything is properly flashed and the valley done properly. You will need to further address the water runoff since the new roof extends out further than the gable roof.

Thank you for your input. Never had these issues before and builders were always there to supervise and be sure implementation went well . Ours had the flu and things went off the charts during his week of illness. The subs needed direction during this.

That is sad to hear. As a builder, we would correct this for the client. Hopefully he has not paid the subs, I would demand that they correct it or not get paid. If that didn't work, I would correct it at my cost. This is just so basic it is hard to believe.

Supervision so necessary and after all why are we paying a contractor but to see job is done right and hopefully to avoid this kind of thing. Thank you greatly for your input. I believe your solution is the best for the situation. Going to shutter over window above and extend shutters to ballance the off set window. I hate this late 80's moderns. Many poor construction and disaster design.

Good Gad that is awful! Hire a architect and do it right don't depend on a builder a lone. They do not cost that much considering the great look you get. They also save you money in the long run because you don't get stuck with this. I can suggest one who is extremely reasonable and will do exterior elevations for a hourly rate that is very low. He is amazing. Patrick Freet pfreet@loq-kit.com, he is based in MN.

Architecturally, it looks like your best bet is to get rid of the gable end and pitched roof and build a shed roof similar to the new construction.
