Charisma x Tinkerbell

Hi Everyone,

In 2012 I sent some pollen from my original Tinkerbell to Mike from this forum and he in turn sent me some seeds of one of the crosses he made that had been successful. The cross was Charisma x Tinkerbell.

I germinated several seedlings and one of them was a double seedling, from the same seed.

This picture of the twin seedlings was taken in May 2012. I planted them both in a coffee cup and I labeled them "twins" as well as another tag saying Pamela or Charisma x Tinkerbell. I'm sure they are the twins but not certain if the pod parent was Pamela or Charisma or why I wrote one or the other. Anyway, I have a bud emerging from the larger one of the twins. I'm thinking that the red of Charisma, or Pamela, will dominate over the softer coloration of Tinkerbell and I guess we'll soon find out. Actually, the bulb is smaller than it looks in this photo, it is just 2 inches in diameter.

Well, I just peeled off the dead skin while checking on the progress of the twins and noticed that both bulbs have a totally different shape; one being round and the other egg shaped!

Now, I was assuming that these would indeed be twins, but it appears that they are different, not imagining that fraternal twins would be possible from one seed of an amaryllis. I know I did not mix anything up as I've had these labeled twins from the get-go and have been very careful with them. Any Ideas?

You will definitely know if the pod parent is Charisma as it passes on it's "dots" to it's children quite nicely.

Hi,

Well my flower is opening!! It appears that it's not going to be a solid red like I feared, maybe something in between but then it's got a ways to go. Three flowers, the flowers appears to be on the small side but the stalk is 17", not at all a miniature like my original Tinkerbell so, we shall see!

For those of you who have forgotten or haven seen my Tinkerbell which I serendipitously received as a mislabel 3 years ago here she is.

She is a miniature, here she is with Apple Blossom to see her size.

Well, here we have it. It bears no resemblance at all to Tinkerbell and takes after Charisma I guess even though there aren't many dots in it. Medium size flower, sort of a bright choral in color, nothing to get excited about, I was so hoping for those crimped petal genes!

It's quite bright and next year with 4 flowers it will be OK, I did hope that Tinkerbell would donate some of her genes but not this time.

Very pretty Donna! Nice color and I really like the various shadings. Is that a white picotee and is there fairy dust - it looks shiny.

There is fairy dust depending on what light you look at it in, and some of the edges have a white picotee but not every edge. I guess that this is the last of my creations this season to bloom, better luck next time! The best thing about it is the color, it glows from across the room, that's something anyway.

Dear Donna,

The color of your new creation is lovely. Don’t forget that she carries some of
Tinkerbell’s genes. I can’t
remember when Tinkerbell last flowered.
If you froze some of her pollen, I would suggest trying to use some of
it to pollinate this creation.
Secondly, think about freezing some of the pollen you have just
harvested to use on Tinkerbell when she flowers next. Those delightful crimped petal edges may eventually be
passed along to the progeny.

Hi,

I do have frozen pollen from last year and I was thinking of doing just that, but then figured I might not live long enough to see the results!! I will do it though and thanks for the push...☺☺

I think she is really beautiful and the coloring is unique. If she was a cultivar in production I'd be more than happy to get one for myself. And one for my mother, she'd love this one.

Very nice, and as others have said, those crinkly genes are lurking just below the surface and may put on a show in the next generation

Thanks Everyone! I guess I'll have to defrost a little pollen and give it a try, tune in 3 years from now...☺☺
