Cute luggage?

It used to be that a lot of my travel was business travel, and I prided myself on always doing carry-on. I had a T Anthony blue canvas roller piece that I used for years.

Now that I am travelling for leisure and with family, we often check luggage. So I can bring BIG luggage, hurrah. (I never understood what was so great about packing light, other than carrying on). They don't make the same luggage I have anymore, so I can't add a larger stowaway to my carryon.

I am looking for something new. Good quality, but fun. A bit feminine. It seems like its the kind of thing I always see when I am not looking for it, and now that I need luggage I can't find much. Here is one idea

Here is another, which for some reason brings to mind Curious George Goes to the Hospital

One observation, Mtn: dirty conveyor belts, filthy cargo holds, drunken baggage handlers........white luggage. Is luggage something you want to spend time cleaning? Or--- and this is from a person who has been accused (undeservedly!) of a distant consanguineal relationship with Marie Antoinette----do you want to pay someone else to clean your luggage?

Editing to add, those are incredibly cute. I have a Bree suitcase in gray boiled wool when i was in the throes of cute luggage lust. It is as cute as a pet. It lives in a spare bedroom closet for sweater storage.

I don't care too much about practical considerations. : )

And it isn't white canvas; it is washable.

    "...drunken baggage handlers" :(

Having to look up "consanguineal" ...

White with brown is my Favorite color combination! So feminine and classy and fun!

haven't encountered the drunken baggage handlers in my travels...

Some of the Victorinox luggage comes in fun colors. I just bought a couple of pieces in purple.

Something to keep in mind - the weight of the luggage - the lighter it is, the more stuff you can pack.

More than baggage handlers, you have to deal with scuffs, scrapes, grease marks and possibly ripped off trim from the conveyor belts and other luggage catching on things. I've watched luggage being loaded and they don't seem to toss it as much as they used to, but some tumble anyway and we've lost zipper pulls and luggage tags that have apparently gotten caught and pulled off. I'd be concerned about those trim straps. I like a fun color -- and definitely consider the weight of the bag. It's so easy to go over the weight on a larger bag. Even a medium one. At the beginning and end of each school year, we have to pack strategically to get my son's stuff into suitcases without going over the weight limits.

Mtn - One thing to consider, if you are on a long trip and your pretty, impractical luggage gets mucked up in the first leg you'll be stuck carrying dirty luggage for your whole trip.

Interestingly, we just had a trip where we had to pack for ski conditions, beach wear, hiking, and ending our trip with NY eve in a major city. And yet we did not go over our luggage weight limits, which i was fully prepared/expecting to do. Some of that had to do with class of service, maybe. I spent years being an expert on how many oz of what I could carry and how to never ever ever ever check, and I don't need to worry about any of that anymore.

I know luggage doesn't stay pretty forever, in fact it usually has grease on it somewhere pretty much the first time you use it. But I don't want practical, if i I did I would have already bought black Tumi and tied a ribbon around it like 95% of what I see on the carousel!

    C'mon ladies!

I like the rounded corners on the white luggage best, the yellow is super fun and easy to spot and will hide wear and tear better but the square corners would bruise me! Both sets are darling. I am on a ski holiday right now and have serious luggage envy, thanks alot!

Then, get the luggage that you posted. You have the means to be whimsical with your choices, so I say go for it!

Most airline weight limits are 50 pounds. When we had to limit it to 30 (going on small local planes) this was still a lot of clothing.

I would say we all have a tendency to over pack, because we just like the ability to have more choices.

Does anybody have any other sources? These were just the only two I liked on Neiman Marcus; I can't seem to find any interesting luggage sources, but OTOH i feel like when I am travelling I always see interesting stuff somehow!

Every time I go to TJ Maxx, I seem to see really cute luggage...

It's the grease that makes me shudder. So many greasemarks on my bags. Would you consider the bellagio in red or pink?

    How about blue?

Might not fit in your timeline, though - five weeks to have it made and mailed I'd imagine.

And don't forget Hermes, they have beautiful luggage.

I once read an article about what happens to suitcases behind the scenes in the airport and the anonymous baggage handler interviewed said people should wrap protective film around their bags. Seems like overkill to me, but he's the one who should know!

The Bellagio is different, but it doesn't appeal to me and I don't think it looks fun or feminine -- which is what you said you wanted. The Bric Bojola looks more feminine to me.

I think that part of the issue is that the price point you are used to looking at is made to be durable and lasting -- which tends to be more traditional and less fun -- it's more of an investment and people are less likely to make an investment in something that might be tiresome before it is due to be replaced. I went looking and saw a lot of colorful designs by Jenni Chan, Nicole Miller, Anne Klein and others that are all different but they are much more modestly priced. Samsonite has some cityscape designs. The Bric Bojola is the only one in that price point that wasn't a solid color or that I thought was more feminine.

Most brands offer some of their lines in more interesting colors, but solids dominate your choices in all price points. Black and darker colors are more popular because they do hide the scuffs and grease marks.

Macy's carries Travelpro, Delsey and Samsonite, among others. Look at ebags, luggagepros, luggage and leather. I'm sure there are others.

LOL, okay now we are having fun!

The LuluGuinesss in shocking pink looks like such fun! But does that have lips all over it? DH will think I have taken leave of my senses. ANd If I ever do have to take a business trip, I will have to leave that home, LOL

Robo, OMG, I adore adore adore that! It would to be too late for this trip. But, ohh the safari one.... Gorgeous!

okay umm, $12,000 for an Hermes carryon. Louis Vuitton seems so reasonable now!

I'm not too crazy about the prominent 4 wheel look like the 1st one you show... and, I would get a deeper color- just to hide the scuffing abit. I would check a site such as ebags and make a decision based on what I thought was a nice look, the weight of the bag/s, and whether the reviews said it was durable with good wheels, click order and then not give it a whole lot more thought! lol

we have a couple of (Samsonite I think) hard cases that are very roomy but way too heavy-- not just for air travel, but for the car too--- have not used them for years- should get rid of them!! want em??? ;)

Did you check Nieman Marcus? They always used to have great fun luggage!

If I had a $12k carryon you'd better believe I would wrap it In plastic film just to carry it on. I would be the traveling version of the old lady with plastic covers on her sofa!

Go to worldtraveler.com and look at Ghurka, Kaeler, Filson, etc. they also have Heys luggage, which has a darling spinner with a world map on it. Super cute, I'll be your girls would LOVE it.

I have a set of Victorinox in Kelly green that I love, and it is cute but not versatile, demanding a certain wardrobe to be coordinated. I can see how white luggage would be the answer to that problem but I would never dare.

You may not want luggage that is too dear because it changes with new materials, new wheels, more wheels, better interior organization, etc. I finally gave away a lovely set of Hartman luggage that was sitting in the basement. It had been very expensive---- not near the realm of Hermes or LV, but still----so I held on to it for a few years after it was no longer useful. What did I think, it was going to grow wheels, or suddenly people would go back to carrying their suitcases instead of pulling them? Lol, from that point on it was strictly middle of the road luggage for us. Except for my cute German boiled wool pet. Which I also don't use any longer.

I wouldn't travel with a $12k carryon. Seems a bit like putting a target on your back.

Link to Steamline LuggageSpringroz, Yes, NeimanMarcus was where i first looked.

KSWL, two years ago I got my girls luggage for Christmas from Heys. One daughter got a set with a huge Blue morpho butterfly (some posters may remember me trying to figure out how to buy it because it was for sale only in Canada), and the other got a b/w houndstooth set.

BTW, the largest piece of the Blue morpho? Handle broke right away. It is really not sturdy enough for such a huge piece luggage. Total rigamarole getting it replaced since I bought through a friend of my BIL who lives in Canada!

    Anyway ... I have transacted!

I really liked the retro look, and I most liked the Globetrotter brand Robo posted (no kidding; at 2k+ for each piece of luggage). But it is bespoke and I would not have it in time, plus the colorways were not quite right. After searching under "retro luggage", I found a set I really like, they look like a knockoff of Globetrotter. A tad more practical in dark brown with white trim instead of vice versa, but still more fun rather than just practical. Not terribly expensive for the set.

lascatx, who the heck would know?

in any event, we all have our limits, and I would not pay 12k for a piece of luggage unless it had, say 11k cash inside of it!

The best pick pockets and such know what to look for. Anyway, we agree on limits -- and I like what you chose a lot better than the one you started with. Doesn't really matter since I will never use or even see it, but I do.

Very cute! Let us know how it performs on your next trip.

Kind of surprised to hear the Heys didn't hold up but glad to know that's one cute to avoid :-)
