If you are keeping the countertop, floors and wall color, you must be thinking about painting the cabinets. They look really nice as they are, with the possible exception of the white side of the snack bar. Perhaps you could consider a wood tone, which might even be under the white paint.

Can you clarify what you are looking for colors for in your kitchen? Cabinets and backsplash? Just not sure. It makes sense that you want to keep the walls the same color as the rest of the first floor though.

The bar will be removed for a bigger island. We r keeping the cabria new quay n the beverage center and would like to use it in the main kitchen. We are looking for colors for the cabinets, backsplash, and a top for the island.

Carol, what colors would you do the island in? The grey or match the bar? And then what type of top?

I would match the island to the beverage bar. I think you need to tie that wood back into the kitchen. I'm not sure about the countertop for the island. I don't know if it is too much to have four different surfaces in the same space - the beverage bar, your countertops, and I include the dining room table in this too because you really see it so much along side the kitchen.

One thought was to do it in slate to play off of the grey cabinet colors. Another thought is to do it in wood - a cherry color to match the base of the island and tie in again with the beverage area. But, I'm not quite sure.

If replacing cabinets I would go with raising them to the ceiling as someone else suggested. While I can understand wanting to keep the wall color, I might repaint the one wall (with the TV and that extends over the kitchen space, a lighter shade of the same green, Often you can find the paint chips that go from a light to a darker shade of the same color. The existing green is near the dark end of such a palette, I would choose a hue one or two up from the lightest end of the palette for the wall. Otherwise, as someone else noted, you have this sharp contrast between the dark and the white. Even if you replace the cabinets you will still have this sharp contrast between the ceiling in the kitchen and the wall--might suggest you just paint the ceiling this same lighter shade of green. With the other dark wall, that shade will look almost white to they eye, but will not have the jarring contrast effect. If you are keeping the bar thing, then I think you need to tie that into the rest of the cabinets in the kitchen in some way. You have the bar a natural wood, the island in a dark grey, and the cabinets white--too many different surfaces. Cabinets a light grey or cream would be good--maybe a distressed look where a wood color shows through on some edges--get away from the bright white, but don't go too dark because as someone else noted, this has a tendency to look like a cave. Maybe just paint the bar thing to match the cabinets. You could then go with a contrasting color for the island cabinet--maybe a darker grey. I would go with a quartz countertop, probably in a reddish sand color. I'd use small tiles that come in 12x12" sheets, in a linear pattern, with mixed colors, that bring together the greys, greens, reddish sand hues of the counter top for the back splash.

I agree with jandkreilly, watch out for continuous color throughout as it may lead to too much boredom and your green is pretty dark. Transitioning on the entry living room wall is a great idea, even if it ends up only beng a step up color to the kitchen color. Also a great idea to extend the cabinets up to the ceiling. It will break the disjoint of the ceiling heights. Although it is preference, I strongly suggest you NOT continue the color scheme but compliment it instead. I used Benjamin Moore Marscapone for my home last year and loved the reflection of it so much I painted the entire house in it. It goes with anything so I can pop each room color with whatever as I choose. Makes for a calm and open feel everywhere and provides flow throughout while still letting me express myself through furnishings. BTW having multi-surfaces in the kitchen is a current trend. You can find 1000's of photos on Houzz representing these variances. Typically they are using different counter materials for the islands/countertops and also for the cabinetry. Look around here cause the sky is the limit if you like that sort of thing.

Delete the 3-door upper unit right of the window. Replace with open shelves in wood to match the beverage unit. If you're redoing the backsplash, keep it all left of the ceiling elevation change like beverage center, with matching crown at ceiling. The dining wall will extend in the kitchen several inches, but you will now have a sensible termination point for the green paint. Then paint the remainder of walls above cabinets to match cabinets, breaking at short wall left of pantry unit. Even if it is white, and the upper cabinet finish remains as is, the look around the window and the transition to the ceiling will appear dramatically different.

EBK...Blending different areas is a matter of choice, but since you would like to work with green, one suggestion could be to do the inverse. That is, paint the kitchen ceiling same color as wall & paint kitchen wall same color as ceiling. In all cases my suggestion is to keep kitchen light & bright since this is a functional area. Integration of other materials is inconsequential such as stone to paint, however cohesiveness is defined by personal taste. Good luck!

If it were my kitchen and budget was not a concern I would:

Remove the drop ceiling if possible. (It will really open up the kitchen and give it the presence it deserves)

Use Cambrian New Quay on all outer counter tops.

Have all the lower cabinets/pantry matching the Bev bar. Color and reveal Since it appears you have those wood tones through out your traditional home.

Install under cabinet lighting.

White cabinets (match the base color in your granite) up to ceiling with as many glass doors as you are comfortable with, matching the seed glass in your Bev. Bar you could keep the hardware ( it looks like bronze) I would make sure the door knobs are placed lower on the door in the corner.

Solid wood counter on island to match lowers. Possibily a live edge counter at your breakfast bar

Create a microwave shelf with new cabinetry .(pet peev clean counter)

Nothing busy for your backsplash. Blend with your counters. You could even do the same back splash as what is used on the back of your Bev. Bar

Once your cabinets go to the ceiling I think the color will be less jarring.

I would paint out the grill above your TV with wall paint.

You have a great kitchen to work with.

I agree with others' comments about the kitchen needing to be brighter and extending the cabinets to the ceiling. The latter would cut down on the clutter above the current cabinets. Definitely get rid of the counter microwave.
Lighter color for island. I don't get this trend to have a contrasting island design. Why not match the cabinets? Do you really need a larger island? Think about how you use the space and whether a larger unit would be cumbersome to work around.
Do you use the breakfast bar? If not, get rid of it.
Paint china cabinet to match the rest of the cabinetry. I'm not a fan of different colors for upper and lower cabinets. I also like plainer cabinets--easier to keep clean--if you're thinking to replace them.
Keep back splash light and not too busy. There's enough going on already. OR: The space needs a pop of bright color but the overall palette in the house seems pretty subdued so you'll have to think about what would be comfortable for you on the back splash.
Next time you post photos, be sure they were taken during the day so we can see the space more clearly.

My kitchen is also green and I wish I had your white cabinets. I wouldn't call the contrast jarring but dramatic. I like it. But could you bring some of the white into the dining room and living room or a lighter green with white maybe paint the chairs or add pillows with green, gray, offwhite--I don't know just something. It just seems dark but may just be the photo. I like the idea of the one wall being painted a lighter green. I like the idea of gray cabinets, too, but I would definitely make it a very light gray. Or maybe an oyster white.

Butter yellow would look great with the green without being blinding.

I think YELLOW is the best color for every kitchen!!

cabinets are fine - why have the island so uncoordinated?

i just redid my kitchen with a glass subway tile that has grey green feel. Had an accent sparkly crushed glass tile (same height different length) and put in random pattern. Loved so much had them do one entire wall in it. Everyone that's seen it gushes.....

How about green glass cabinetry with a smoked mirrored backsplash? Since the kitchen is recessed, the sparkle of the glass and mirror will open up the space. Add under cabinet LED lighting strips and use hidden power strips.

Also consider a couple of glass front cabinets with interior LED lighting.

Robin - can you send me a picture with an example? We will be replacing all the cabinets and removing the long bar to make just one bigger island. The beverage center will stay.

I like the previous suggestion of using a lighter shade of the same green color on the walls. If you replace the cabinets, go all the way up. I also like the idea suggested of using the bar wood tone for your lower cabinets and island with glass doors or open shelves for at least some of the uppers. Personally, I would also match them to your bar.

I agree that pops of yellow in your décor items would tie this color scheme together very nicely. I recently used Bianco Antico granite in my kitchen and I love it. Everyone who sees it loves it. It is grey and white with sparkly silver flecks. Gorgeous and would work well on you island and counters. I would not mix the countertop materials - too many different things going on already.

Consider the rest of your home when making your decisions. The kitchen should compliment the other rooms. Just a few ideas. Good luck. You have a lovely space to work with.

I just did my kitchen and used light grey cabinets, marble backsplash and white Quartz counters. Here is a picture to give you ideas. I also did under cabinet light on dimmers and love them!

the idea of having the island cabinets different from the color of the others is good..keep it..

for the cabinets try soft cinnebar 3 ..use its cold shade( greyish one) and perhaps change the handles of the cabinets too ( rose copper or yellow copper will be nice) as for the back splach, i would choose a faux wood long tiles and sprinkle small shiny mosaic texture ( metallic) tiles in separate places.
