Hi Josh,

As you know i'm mixing my own soils. Did you see my post about Haydite?

Anyway, I have: Dwarf Shefflera, Fukien tea, Australian Brush Cherry, 6 Ficus Retusa (ginseng), Euonymus Japonicus 'Microphyllus', Green island Ficus, 2 Oriental Ficus, Portulacaria Afra & a Yew Podocarpus.

Most of these need to go into the 'Gritty Mix' except for 1 oriental ficus, that will go in the Haydite mix.

Some of them will be re-potted while others will be transplanted.

There probably wont be much root pruning necessary, but I'm not sure about some of the trees tolerance for this. I actually don't have much experience in this (important) aspect of the job.

As for above soil pruning, is it ok to do minor work during winter months? Some trees appear to slow down a bit during winter, but for the most part they all seem to be in grow mode year around.

The reason to avoid Winter pruning is that new growth tends to have longer internodes and weaker/thinner growth overall. Although they are growing year-round, the Summer growth is still more vital.
