I might start my first ones today. Been holding off, as I moved my planter onto the sun porch, and it's chilly out there.

I planted 3 - 72 cell trays and I too am going to bring a bunch to the spring fling hopefully. I have about 15 varieties that came up and 2 varieties that haven't come up yet. I like doing this it helps me focus on warm weather coming

My tomato plants are what have kept me alive (grin) and have given me hope that this winter weather eventually will end. The 4 purchased plants that I bought in late January or early February are in 1-gallon pots and are getting fairly big. One of them has two tiny fruit on it, and others have bloomed. Since they've been inside, I don't think fruit has set on the three others. The first plant bloomed and set fruit while sitting outdoors on a table in sunny, warm, weather so it pollinated just fine. The others probably have bloomed while too cold for good pollination, and merely dropped their blossoms.

The tomato plants I started from seed on Super Bowl Sunday are doing really well, and were potted up from the starter flat to individual pots (although 2 plants per pot) a couple of weeks ago. I have started two smaller rounds of tomato seeds since then, and need to pot up the rest of those today. I'm going to give these month-old plants their first feeding this week.

Some years (this won't be one of them, but 2012 was) the winter temperatures ended fairly early here and I put tomato plants in the ground around March 7-9 and they didn't freeze, though I had to cover them up on a few late cold nights. I'm not expecting to put any tomato plants in the ground any time soon. My soil temperatures are in the 30s now, even in the raised beds, after spending some time in the 50s in February, which I knew was too wonderful to last.

As long as I have tomato plants growing indoors, spring seems closer than it generally is. I don't have a planting-out date in mind yet as it is so dependent on soil and air temperatures, but my average last frost date is March 28th, although it is common to have a freezing cold night once or twice a week through early May. Those late nights are why somebody invented floating row covers.

Oh well, Bon, stuff happens and some days are just like that. I hope you were able to reconstruct your articles without too much trouble. Anyone who raises their own plants from seed will have occasional mishaps like that. It just kinda goes with the territory.

Mystery tomato plants still will produce wonderful tomatoes and you'll have fun guessing which one is which as the fruit matures. You'll be surprised how many mystery tomatoes can be identified from the combination of fruit shape, size and color, and often DTM, especially since you know what seeds you sowed to begin with.

I am relieved your children didn't find you lying on the floor with blood gushing from an artery----it would have been so traumatizing.
