Seed Potatoes in the OKC area?

Last year, K & K Nursery in Moore had a GREAT selection of seed potatoes, including some delicious Yukon Golds and a German variety whose name I don't recall. I assumed that they would have the same potatoes this year, and so didn't really put much planning in to potato shopping. Unfortunately, this year they only have Kennebec and a red potato. I would really like to plant some Yukon Golds at least, and have waited too long to order any seed potatoes. I can try planting some from the grocery store, but am wondering if anyone knows of a place in the OKC/Norman/Shawnee metro that has a decent seed potato selection. I went to the Home Depot in Moore, but they did not have anything. Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I hadn't even thought about Tractor Supply. We were able to get some German Butter potatoes there (organic, so pretty expensive). They also had a big bag of Yukon Golds that I passed on because I only have 3 smartpots (my potato growing experiment for this year), but I think I've talked myself in to going back for a bag of the yukon golds and buying a few more smart pots. Nancy, let me know how your store bought ones come out!

Hiya Krista, I bought Yukon Golds at Atwoods. They also carry Kennebec, Pontiac Reds and another Russet. You can get Yukons there if you cannot find any place else. $3.99/5lb

Krista, I'm not in the right part of the state to actually answer your question, but I've been to two Tractor Supply Company stores in the last month (in Ardmore, OK and Gainesville, TX) and both had a nice variety of seed potatoes, including Red Norland, Kennebec, Yukon Gold, German Butterball, Sangre Red, Purple Peruvian, Rose Finn Apple, Russian Banana, Cherry Red and a couple more whose names I can't remember. So, if you're in the vicinity of a Tractor Supply Company store (I go there to buy chicken feed), you might stop in and see if the ones in your neck of the woods have seed potatoes. The ones down here have them every year. The Atwoods here also has them for the same price that Bon mentioned.

I always have better luck with feed stores or farm/ranch supply stores than with the big box stores. Down here the big box stores get their seed potatoes in the stores about a month earlier than I like, and I don't want to buy them and have them sitting around underfoot for an extra month if I can help it. By the time I'm ready to buy, the selection is poor. I used to buy them earlier, but it seems like the earlier we buy them, the earlier the stores get them in stock and it becomes a vicious cycle.

I've also found a decent selection at TLC in past years. I haven't been by there yet this year to see what varieties they are offering. I'll come back and post if I get by there soon so you'll know if there is another option in the metro.

I am just going to plant store bought....and see what happens. The price of seed potatoes is getting too high. I know the worry is certain disease, not sprotting, etc. but I put potato peel and parts out in holes in the garden all the time. Call me a rebel!
