I think it would be OK. Figs are basically weeds that do fine in poor soil and awful conditions. They can be found growing in cracks in walls, upside down under bridges, and in the middle of fields covered with grasses and weeds. We mulch ours, but they will grow with or without. They aren't so fussy in ground, but in pots that's a whole new ball game. Pots get hot and you can fry their roots, or you can over or under water. They are drought resistant with powerful root systems that will seek and find the dampness they need. Good luck! I love creeping thyme! Oregano is nice too.

I am growing beet lettuce, and kale in with my container figs.
