Very sharp. Did you use concrete stain on the steps or pressure wash the paint off? Somewhat larger light sconces might also work, down the road.

We installed slate tile on the patio and steps. We're very happy with the way the slate turn out on the patio.

I was concerned going too big with the exterior lights because they're 6 lights (3 upstairs patio and 3 downstairs). I felt it might end up a bit overbearing. But, looking back at the picture, you might be right, I could've gone a little bigger.

Love the color transformation. The landscaping looks very green in the photo. Some pops of color would be really nice. Hanging flower baskets or planter boxes off the balcony rail might be a nice addition.

I like the update and I really love the slate tile...that is gorgeous. Just gorgeous.

I agree with Shirleen, boxing in the columns with MDF and adding some decorative mouldings would significantly enhance aesthetics. Perhaps, going a step further in adding handrails with spindles to the bottom level would create a porch look, while adding value and appeal.

Thanks for the advice Shirleen and Perfect Trades. I did consider adding handrails, but since the existing handrails upstairs wouldn't be my handrail of choice, I didn't want to install a different railing downstairs. As far as adding MDF to the columns, I may consider that. Thanks.

Lisalogan363, it's not a matter of poor taste. I can see that one is yellow and the same house is green in another. Additionally, part of the garden landscape has changed by the removal or addition of some shrubs. I'm a Brit and not from the USA....perhaps, I'm not familiar with these tropical looking houses and colours?

You and I may be confused by the comments on "handrail". Webster tells us that a handrail is a narrow rail for grasping with the hand as a support.

If that is what we are talking about adding to the entry stair, that is necessary and wise, as your insurance agent will tell you, and you don't need the fencing below it like on the balconies above, only the handrail.

Back to the balconies, they could use an oversize horizontal rail across the top to give them a look of stability, (at least 4" thick, maybe 6") that will become something to lean your arms on or set a drink on while enjoying the view and inviting the neighbor over for coffee.

Ocean Ridge is a small coastal town only about a mile long on A1A near Boynton Beach and Delray Beach.
