Not sure but I would definitely soak it.

I have taken pepper seeds from a spicy store-bought seasoning mix and successfully germinated the dried seeds. Your germination may be 2 of 10 but that would yield two - probably sturdy (will to survive) - plants … or not. Can not hurt to try. Come back with a report.

Count three strikes: 1) soaked in vinegar, a herbicide. 2) soaked in salt, also not friendly. 3) possibly cooked.

It cant be anyworse than being in the freezer for a year. Got 1 plant that grew out of 100 seeds. You never know.

Seeds are amazing things. I wish I had the connections or knowhow to find/collect seeds with a story, and then to save those seeds to carry on that story.

Keep us updated on what happens but... I gotta go with grubby on this one. Those peppers have been processed with vinegar and salt, and they look like they have been cooked- all of which will make a good seed a dud.

Actually, I agree with grubby too, but that is why I want to try anyway. Logic dictates it wont work... but what if it does?

It doesn't look too bad, the skin probably keeps out a lot of the salt and whatever else is on it.

I've read about people germinating seeds from roasted peppers, smoked, hot pepper flakes, etc. Seeds are hardy, they've got a will to survive. They are pretty amazing too. Evolution and genetics is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
