I had decided that the time to plant out the hoophouse tomatoes was when there were no nights in the 30's in the ten day forecast, and also another good sign was if there were volunteer tomatoes germinating in there. But we are having a super warm late winter here in western Oregon...there haven't been any 30's for days and there aren't any in the forecast either, and this morning I saw a volunteer tomato seedling while I was transplanting kohlrabi in there! Having only grown in the hoophouse for 2 full seasons I don't have the experience and the intuition that goes with it....unlike the twenty some years I've been planting outside here. So I'm wondering what some of you other hoophouse growers do. Do you have a set date that you set the tomatoes out? Or do you try to guess the weather also to get the best transplant conditions? What are some of the lowest temperatures your young tomatoes have tolerated without long term damage?
