Can you buy seeds for it?

I have some areas in Socorro that could use a vine.

Nice plants and pics, Jon. I should have mentioned that it's more of a shortish scrambler, thanks for highlighting that. I'd say it is even less of a vine that A. fimbriata which I also love and grew in my last local garden but for some reason haven't started growing in this one, hmm... I'm not at all familiar with A. quercifolia, very cool. Thanks for highlighting these! I've only seen the occasional plant for sale, lazy, but if I collect seeds I'll reach out to you. I love this plant too and have an out of control vine of it, I think it's gigantea. English name is Dutchman's Pipe Vine. It's eating one of my sheds. Here's a pic of the blooms.

The vine before it *really* took over. There's an emu bush under it and in the background is a hedge of thevetia bushes.

Nice gigantea Mary. I have one that is not nearly as happy as yours. It was sold to me by Tohono Chul as a host plant for Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies. Upon further research I found that it is clearly NOT a host plant. The toxins are too strong for the local butterflies. It does look nice though.

Thanks Jon. That vine struggle for several years but when the thevetia behind it grew big enough to give it good shade, it really took off. Also, I backed off on watering it (thinking it was about dead) and it seems happy with low water. Go figure. It's very frost sensitive so the branches took a hit over the winter but it's putting out new growth now. I've never seen any caterpillars, or caterpillar damage, on the leaves but I did see a beautiful butterfly the other day, large yellow and black. I'll have to Google swallowtail and see if that is it. This plant came to me via a nursery in Ventura when a friend traveled up that way and brought it back for me.

Awesome gigantea, Mary, I'm SO envious of it. I've tried it once before and it really languished for me. Yours is just amazingly wonderful. I may have to give it a try again. Love the fun pics/discussion all, keep it coming. Happy gardening!
