What type of iris and what size of pot?

I'm not sure about what kind of Iris (Are there different kinds of Iris?) but pots are about 10inches in dia. and about 10 inches deep. Pembroke

Yes, many different kinds. If yours are tall beardeds (many are 35 inches tall to the top bloom) a half barrel will accomodate them for maybe 5 years. It all depends upon how vigorous a cultivar it is. TBs may be sold in a 10inch pot but that is strictly temporary. They are meant to be put in the ground after bloom. Was there a name? Did you take a picture of it in bloom?

So that's the bad news. A 10inch deep pot would work for a few years for miniature dwarf bearded iris.

Fertilizer to be used can be any low nitrogen type ie. 8-10-6. Some people use 10-10-10. Flower buds are formed the previous year.

most of mine are tall bearded iris. I was hoping to keep them until they bloomed and get rid of the ones I don't want to keep. Thanks. Pembroke

Go ahead and fertilize them now.. I use a 6 12 12 or a 5 10 10..as long as the 1st number is lower than the other 2.. I also sprinkle a handful of epson salt in around the rhizome.
