Is it just the very tips of the leaves or is it whole leaves that are dying? Got a pic?

Urban - That is not a problem. It will come back; it is only the parts of the leaves exposed to freezing that were killed. The garlic will grow fine.

Keeping up on the watering?

No, no more water. Wet condition is the #1 problem in our area. Just too much water and some garlic plants just rot. This is the problem our local farmers had last spring. They did not get a good harvest because of the extra water and rot.

Garlic is very hardy; do not worry about fall sprouting.

The watering situation is a more important issue. Water if the bed dries out enough, but DO NOT overwater. Spring isn't always overly moist, especially if there is an early melt off of the snow cover. Out here we get a fire season, very often between melt off and the start of spring rains. A whole lot depends on if the frost has gone out of your ground and how well drained it is then.

Some of my garlics are just now showing up and some have their third and fourth leaves already; so there is some difference between the varieties as they come out of winter dormancy. Some greened up last fall and stayed green all winter under what snow we had; some are just now showing up for the first time. You sorta gotta play it by ear. Garlic like all alliums likes it constantly moist but never soggy, especially early in the season.

Here we have so much moisture in spring and I do not remember watering anything in spring time. Hope I do not have to water garlic before they mature....
