The "Show Off" Thread

I love coming to this site for all kinds of useful information,
special thanks to all those who share their wisdom. Some other forums I
belong to have threads that show off pieces of their collection.
Hopefully I'm not being to intrusive (as I'm mainly a daily lurker) and
trying to start one here. So please post pictures of plants you are
proud of; big, small, common, rare. Even the before and afters of
rescue plants would be cool!

I'll start off with this plant: This was a spider plant that came
with my house, the old homeowner left her plants behind and this poor
baby had 3 leaves left and was sitting in a water filled coffee mug when
I found her. She now has had tons of babies and last year a Wandering
Jew wandered in and made home.

    That is awesome! Good job.

I love the Wandering Jew in the same pot. The colors, textures, and directions contrast very well. Good Job with these plants.
    Have a Good Day.

Here is 'my show-off' - this stinker is flowering first time for me. Not sure how much longer before it opens up.

    Which one is it, Rina?

Rina, I just bought some of those unique plants, and I quite look forward to growing them, even their pungent smell. The packaging called them "Arum cornutum," the voodoo lily. But I think their correct name is Typhonium venosum? They are actually members of the Aroid family, and aren't true lilies.

It was ID-ed as A. Konjak before, but after I posted this photo on aroids forum I was told it is Typhonium venosum.
I have tried to check it all out, and many different Aroids use common name woodoo lily...
I wonder if leaves would help to get correct ID (I believe this is T. venosum - the soon-to-be flower looks like it on many photos of venosum) since I had differently shaped leaves on few plants.

Maybe this one is A. Konjak?

    ???

It opened late last night - and it stinks!!! (so far only if you are close to it).
Interesting, first time blooming for me.

I am not sure I can take any credit for this. It is a spider plant (Ocean), and it is only about a year old. It grows like crazy, even this past winter it was growing and even producing runners. You can kinda see in the photo that one of the runners almost grew to the floor. It is kinda creepy.

That's such a big spider plant, really pretty! Is it just one mother plant in the pot?

Yup it is one big monster! And just yesterday I noticed two new runners. Ugh. I've had to cut off previous babies and runners because it is getting so big I don't know where to keep it. I potted two of its babies this winter and they produced runners in February! I had to cut those off too but they are growing new runners already. Here is one of the babies :-)

i'll take one! my spider plant is an old fashioned variety and the leaves are actuallyreally tender. they bend and kink and get brown tips no matter what i do! i should just pitch it and get a newer variety. :)

Where are you shihtzu? I am in Canada so mailing to US would be difficult. I was at Home Depot the other day and saw more of the "Ocean" variety. I wonder if they are available where you are? They are just marked "tropical foliage" but you can recognize it by the wide leaves. I think I will have to buy mine one of those plant stands so the runners can hang freely around it.

I have to show my Majesty Palm before it starts going down hill. I hope it wont but it definitely looks like its on the verge of the change.

This is weird....I always thought I bought my first plants in February 2012.....But it turns out it was February 2013..............That means I've been only keeping house plants for 2 years.....That doesn't seem right to me....Huh.

Feb 2013 (As my 4th Houseplant ever only beat by my heart philo, peace lily, and pony palm which were all bought at the same time a week or less prior)

Here's my oldest house plant my haworthia. Not sure on age exactly but its over 6 years for sure. This is the best photo I could find of it in 2011, had to crop it out as it was in the background of another photo! Its a tough plant, it has survived a house fire and care from me as an 9 year old and now needs a new pot!

I love this plant! I know I've shown pictures of this plant in bloom before, but it is probably my favorite houseplant. My mother-in-law showed me her Columnea three years ago and I fell in love. She had a couple of clippings from her plant rooted, so she gave them to me. I promptly killed them. She promised me new clippings that spring. During that winter, she passed away. On the day she was buried, my father-in-law gave me four new clippings. I brought them home and rooted them. My cats ate them down to just a couple of leaves not once, but twice, but two years later, this gorgeous plant is flowering almost nonstop. This plant really kickstarted my love for gesneriads.

Diggin' the way these plants look! Top pot is Sansevieria (snake plant,) Echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg,' Sedum morganianum, Kleinia petraea (trailing Jade,) and not sure what the tiny one is. The bottom pot has Peperomia 'Jellie,' Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, misc cuttings.

Savannaicus, what are the plants hanging over your spider plant in the pic?

Purple Waffle Plant. It just got a major hair cut yesterday. That plant drinks a ton of water and grows like a weed. The leaves hanging out on the top left of the picture is an umbrella tree.
