Interesting. How do you keep the roots cool and watered?

High pressure drip emitters with timer????

The blocks have a steel plate at the bottom. A small hole for drainage as well.

In regards to the question on roots, the Ficus Pumila vines at the top have a drip irrigation system connected to a timer. The individual blocks are watered manually.

I would think plants would dry out pretty quickly - especially in concrete which probably holds the heat. Wouldn't want to be constantly watering those babies.

This has not been a problem and all 107 succulents are doing great. Here is an updated picture.

Succulents - didn't realize. Not so much of a problem.
