It depends on how well they are stored. They should be kept reasonably cool and dry. This Seed Viability Chart says 5 - 6 years. I have seen other sources that suggest as long as 20 years when stored under really good conditions. This is a link on various techniques for storing seeds . But you should be able to store them on a bookshelf or in a drawer in their seed packet for several years. I store mine in the basement where it is relatively cool and dry year round, and some that are 5 years old are germinating just fine.

I've saved seeds of various flowers and vegetables for years. As mentioned above, keep cool and dry; also, in the dark (seed packet will block out light).

The freezer department is an excellent place to store most seeds long term to maintain high viability.
